What it looks like
Light brown with two dark stripes behind the head, 12 to 15 mm, fast; runs from the light.
The signs
Seen at night in the kitchen; tiny dark droppings like pepper in cupboard corners; egg cases; an oily smell in a heavy infestation.
The risk
Carries salmonella and gastroenteritis bacteria, triggers asthma, and spreads through a block of flats via the risers.

Gel bait behind the fridge, the cooker and the dishwasher motor, sticky monitors to count them, three visits, the managing agent told.

Questions about the identifier

I am still not sure what it is.

Text a photograph to 07700 900 670, with something for scale if you can, and a technician will tell you, usually within the hour in the day. Droppings photographed next to a coin are the most useful picture you can send.

Can I treat it myself?

Ants, often, with a gel bait from a hardware shop; a few mice, sometimes, with snap traps. Rats, wasps, bed bugs and cockroaches, rarely: the shop products kill the ones you see and leave the nest. We will tell you honestly on the phone if a DIY fix will do.

Why is the bee free?

Because Nia keeps bees, a swarm is a colony she is glad to have, and killing honey bees is something we will not do. It costs us an evening and some petrol.

Does the price ever change?

Not for the jobs on this page. A wasp nest needing a tower, a block of flats with cockroaches in the risers, or a gull roof needing a platform is quoted, and we say so before we come.
