A plate, and the reasons behind it.

Registered nutritionists in the Old School at Llandaff North. Bring a week of real food. We look at it together, and you leave with three things to change and nothing to buy.

  1. Roots and colour

Most of us eat too few plants, and too few kinds. Beetroot counts.

  2. Greens, seeds, yoghurt

About half the plate, if you can. Not on every plate. It is not an exam.

  3. Protein, at every meal

It matters more from your forties on, and most people have it only at teatime.

  4. Slow carbohydrate

Lentils and grains are why you are still awake at three in the afternoon.

What we do

Six things we do at the table.

All six

One-to-one nutrition

Seventy-five minutes at the old school table with a week of your real food in front of us, then a plan that fits a real kitchen.

First session £85.

Gut health

For people with a GP's diagnosis of IBS or a gut that has been misbehaving for a while. We work out the patterns, and go carefully with anything restrictive.

First session £85.

Menopause nutrition

Protein, bones, sleep, the weight that seems to arrive from nowhere and the articles that all disagree. Food works alongside your medical care, and does not replace it.

First session £85.

Sports nutrition

For runners, cyclists, rugby players and anyone training for something on a calendar. Fuelling that you practise before race day.

First session £85.

Workplace talks

Forty-five minutes on eating well at work, night shifts, the menopause or the afternoon slump, with real questions and no guilt about the biscuits.

£220 a talk.

Meal planning

A four-week plan based on what your household will actually eat, with a shopping list and a batch-cook list. Not an app and not a calorie count.

£60 for four weeks.

How we work

Four things you can hold us to.

We start from what you eat

Not from what you think you ought to eat. A real week, with the biscuits left in. Nobody here will be shocked.

Nothing to buy from us

We do not sell supplements. If one is worth taking, we say which sort and why, and you can get it anywhere.

Evidence, in plain words

If the research is thin we say it is thin, including on things that are fashionable and on things we would like to be true.

We know when to stop

Eating disorders, kidney disease, insulin and tube feeding belong with a dietitian and your doctor. We will help you get there.

The Old School

The beds out the front are ours. So is the beetroot.

The building taught children in Llandaff North for ninety years. Now it holds a violin teacher, a chiropodist and us. We sit at the old table in the headmaster's room, and in season you may be sent home with some chard.

  • 75 minthe length of a first session

Reviews

What people say.

All six
One-to-one

I came with a folder of things I had read. Bethan looked at my actual week and told me to eat lunch. It is embarrassing how much that one thing changed my afternoons.

Nerys G.Whitchurch
Gut health

She sent me back to my GP first, which I had been avoiding. Once that was clear we did the low-FODMAP thing properly, and I now know that it is onions. I can eat nearly everything else again.

Paul H.Llandaff North
Menopause

No magic powders. She told me food would not stop my hot flushes and that I should lift things. I went to the GP with a list of questions, and I felt a lot less mad.

Questions people ask

Are you a dietitian?

No. We are registered nutritionists. Dietitian is a protected title for professionals trained to treat medical conditions with diet. If that is what you need, we will help you get referred.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly. If you have a medical condition or take regular medicine, tell us when you book, as we may want to speak to your GP.

Do you sell supplements?

No. If one might help, we tell you which sort, how much and why, and you buy it wherever you like.

Can you help with an eating disorder?

Not on our own, and it would be wrong to try. Please speak to your GP, or Beat on 0808 801 0433. We can support you alongside your treatment team, if they ask.

What does it cost?

A first session is £85 for seventy-five minutes, follow-ups are £50, and a four-week meal plan is £60. There are no blocks and no membership.

Will this cure my condition?

No, and be careful of anyone who says it will. Food can help how you feel and can support your medical treatment. It does not replace it.
