Won't drain, won't spin, leaking, noisy or stuck shut
Washing machine repairs
Drain pumps, door seals, bearings, brushes, door locks and control boards on front-loaders and washer-dryers, mostly fixed on the first visit from parts on the van.

Most washing machine faults are one of six: a blocked filter, a failed pump, worn brushes, a split seal, a faulty door lock or worn bearings. Five of those are worth repairing on almost any machine. The sixth usually is not.
A machine that will not drain has usually swallowed a sock, a coin or a hair grip into the pump filter behind the little flap at the bottom front. Check that first; the fault finder shows how. If the filter is clear and the pump hums without moving water, the pump has failed and we replace it in about forty minutes. A machine that will not spin often has worn motor brushes, which is a cheap fix, or an unbalanced load, which is free.
A leak from the front is nearly always the door seal, torn by a bra wire or a zip; from underneath it can be the pump, a hose or the drum seal. A machine that sounds like a jet engine on spin has worn bearings, and on most modern machines the bearings are sealed inside a plastic drum that has to be replaced whole. On anything over about seven years old, that costs more than the machine is worth, and we will tell you so.

Questions about washing machines
Is it worth repairing a seven-year-old washer?
Usually, for a pump, seal, brushes or door lock. Not for bearings on a sealed drum. The fault finder gives a view by age, and we say so on the phone.
Do you fix integrated machines?
Yes. We slide them out, repair and refit them, and check the door hinges on the way back in.
Do I need to empty it first?
If you can, drain it from the filter onto towels and take out the washing. If you cannot, we do it.
Book a repair, or ask first.
Ring and describe the fault: if it is something you can fix yourself, we will talk you through it for nothing. If not, the call-out is £59 and it is included in the fixed repair price when you go ahead.
