Fridge and freezer repairs

Thermostats, fans, defrost heaters and timers, door seals and blocked drains on fridges, freezers and fridge freezers. Sealed-system work referred honestly.

An engineer checking the back of a tall fridge freezer pulled out from the wall with a multimeter

A fridge that has gone warm while the freezer stays cold has usually got a blocked defrost or a failed fan, not a dead compressor. Those are repairable, and quickly, because food is waiting.

We repair the parts outside the sealed cooling system: thermostats, evaporator and condenser fans, defrost heaters, sensors and timers, door seals, hinges and the blocked drain hole at the back of the fridge that causes water on the floor or a sheet of ice on the back wall. Frost-free freezers that ice up have a failed defrost heater or sensor, and that is a common, fair-priced repair.

A failed compressor or a refrigerant leak is sealed-system work. On most domestic fridges it costs more than a new appliance, and we will say so straight away rather than send you to a specialist for a bill you will not want. Fridge and freezer faults get priority in the diary.

Questions about fridges and freezers

My fridge is warm but the freezer is fine.

Classic frost-free fault: a blocked air channel or a failed fan or defrost heater. Move food to cool boxes and ring us; it is usually a one-visit repair.

Can you regas my fridge?

Domestic sealed-system repairs are rarely economic and need specialist equipment. We will tell you if a sealed-system fault is likely, and what a new fridge would cost instead.

Water on the floor?

Usually the drain hole at the back of the fridge compartment is blocked. Clear it with a cotton bud or a straw and warm water; if it keeps happening, ring us.

Book a repair, or ask first.

Ring and describe the fault: if it is something you can fix yourself, we will talk you through it for nothing. If not, the call-out is £59 and it is included in the fixed repair price when you go ahead.
