Where it hurts

Where does it hurt?

Pick an area to see what we look at, how many appointments people usually need, what it costs, and the warning signs that mean a GP, 111 or 999 rather than an osteopath. General information, not a diagnosis.

Shoulder

What we look at

How far the shoulder lifts and rotates, and what hurts; the rotator cuff and the joints around the shoulder blade; the neck, because neck problems often cause shoulder pain; how you train or work.

How many appointments

Typically four to six appointments over a few weeks, with exercises in between. Frozen shoulder takes months whatever anyone does.

What it costs

The first appointment is an hour for £58, follow-ups £48 (£42 for over-65s). More on sports injuries.

See a doctor instead if

  • Left shoulder or arm pain with chest pain, breathlessness or sweating: ring 999. It can be the heart.
  • A shoulder that looks out of place after a fall, or you cannot lift the arm at all after an injury: go to A&E or a minor injuries unit.
  • A hot, swollen, very painful joint with a temperature: same-day GP or 111.

These lists are not complete. If you are worried, ring NHS 111 Wales; in an emergency, ring 999.

Book an appointment, or ask first.

The first appointment is an hour and £58: questions and examination before any treatment, an honest view of whether osteopathy is the right thing, and a plan in plain words. Book a slot from the diary or ring the clinic.
