Back, pelvis and rib pain in pregnancy, and the months after

Pregnancy and postnatal

Gentle osteopathy for the aches of pregnancy, including low back pain, pelvic girdle pain and rib pain, and for the strain of the months after birth: feeding posture, lifting, carrying and a body that has changed.

Pregnancy changes posture, load and ligaments in a matter of months, and many women are told aches are just part of it. Often there is something that helps.

Anna sees most of our pregnant and postnatal patients. Treatment is gentle and adapted to each stage: side-lying with pillows, seated, or on a couch with a cut-out, never lying flat on your back late in pregnancy. We treat low back pain, pelvic girdle pain (including pain at the front of the pelvis), rib and upper back pain, and the neck and shoulder strain of the months after birth, and we show you positions and exercises for sleeping, standing and lifting.

We work alongside your midwife, not instead of them. Some symptoms in pregnancy need the midwife or maternity unit urgently, such as bleeding, severe headache, sudden swelling, reduced movements, or pain that is constant rather than mechanical, and we will always send you there. Postnatally, we are happy to see you from six weeks after birth, or sooner with your GP's or midwife's agreement.

Questions about pregnancy and postnatal

Is osteopathy safe in pregnancy?

Gentle osteopathy by a registered osteopath is widely used in pregnancy. We screen carefully, adapt every technique, and tell your midwife if anything concerns us.

Can I bring the baby?

Yes. Feed, change and pace about as needed; the appointment can wait.

Book an appointment, or ask first.

The first appointment is an hour and £58: questions and examination before any treatment, an honest view of whether osteopathy is the right thing, and a plan in plain words. Book a slot from the diary or ring the clinic.
