Stiff joints, arthritis and keeping moving, at a gentler pace

Gentle osteopathy for older patients

Unhurried, gentle treatment for older patients with stiff backs, sore hips and knees, arthritis and the aches that make walking, gardening or getting out of a chair harder than it should be. No manipulation unless you want it.

Getting older is not a diagnosis. Stiff joints and arthritis are common, but how much they stop you doing can often be changed with gentle treatment and the right exercise.

Treatment for older patients is gentle and unhurried: soft tissue work, gentle joint movement and stretching, rather than the quicker manipulative techniques, unless you want them and they are safe for you. We look at your balance and strength as well as the sore joint, because staying strong is the best protection against falls, and we give simple exercises you can do at home, many sitting down.

We take a full history including your medicines and other conditions, because osteoporosis, blood thinners and heart conditions all affect what is safe. We are happy for a family member to come in with you. If something needs your GP, a physiotherapist or the falls service, we will say so and write a letter if you would like.
