The tutors

Named, qualified, and checked.

Six of the fourteen below; the other eight are named on the board in the waiting area and we will tell you who would suit your child. Every tutor is a qualified teacher or a graduate in the subject they teach, has an enhanced DBS check renewed yearly, and was interviewed and observed by Eleri before they taught a lesson here. Ask for one by name, or let us match, and change any time.

Safeguarding

What "checked" means here, line by line.

Enhanced DBS, every year

The highest level of criminal-record check, including the barred lists, renewed annually for all fourteen tutors and the office staff. Held on file with the dates; parents may ask to see the register.

Interviewed and observed

Eleri interviews every tutor, checks qualifications and references, and watches them teach a trial lesson before they take a student. About one applicant in four is taken on.

Glass doors, open rooms

Every teaching room has a glass panel in the door, parents may sit in on any lesson, and online lessons are recorded with the parent\'s consent. The safeguarding policy is on the wall and Eleri is the designated lead.

The same person each week

Your child sees the same tutor at the same time, and cover is arranged in advance with someone who has read the notes. A different stranger each week is not something we do.

Tutors

Teachers and graduates who would like to tutor here: we take about one in four.

We pay £24 to £30 an hour depending on level, with set hours in term time, the rooms, the materials and the admin done for you. You need a degree in your subject or QTS, a current enhanced DBS or the willingness to get one, and to teach a trial lesson in front of Eleri. Maths, physics and the sciences are the subjects we are shortest of.

Start with the free session. Forty-five minutes, no obligation.

Tell us the year group and the subject, and we match a tutor and offer a slot for a free first session at the centre or online: an assessment, a chat with you both, and an honest view of what would help. We reply within the working day. Or ring the office.
