Subjects

Fifteen subjects, four levels.

A tick means we have a tutor for it at that level now, named on the tutors page. WJEC for most Cardiff schools, AQA, Edexcel and OCR for the rest; tell us the board and we teach to its specification. If your subject is not here, ask: we have found tutors for Latin, music theory and Mandarin this year.

Exam boards

We teach to the paper your child is sitting.

WJEC

The board for most Cardiff schools at GCSE and A-level, and the one with the least material online, which is why a tutor who knows its papers matters. Nine of our fourteen tutors have taught or marked for it.

AQA and Edexcel

Independent schools and some comprehensives use them. The specifications differ in what they emphasise and how the mark schemes reward working; we check which before the first lesson.

OCR

Computer science and some sciences. Fewer students, same approach: the specification, the past papers and the examiner\'s report, which tells you what cost marks last year.

The 11+ papers

Each school sets its own: GL or CEM-style reasoning, a maths paper, an English paper with writing. We teach to the format of the schools you are applying to and run mocks in it.

Welsh second language

The GCSE oral is a quarter of the grade and the part nobody practises.

Catrin runs oral practice groups through the spring term for Welsh second language: the role play, the group discussion and the presentation, recorded and played back, so a student who freezes in the exam has done it twenty times in a room that does not matter. One-to-one Welsh is available from Year 3 for children in English-medium schools and for the parents who want to keep up with them.

The Welsh oral group on the timetable

Start with the free session. Forty-five minutes, no obligation.

Tell us the year group and the subject, and we match a tutor and offer a slot for a free first session at the centre or online: an assessment, a chat with you both, and an honest view of what would help. We reply within the working day. Or ring the office.
