Wednesday nights

League teams

Two teams in the valleys league, training on Wednesdays and playing on Thursdays. £12 a month and £3 a match. Places go on effort as well as skill.

Two women in a netball match in a sports hall, one in teal leaping for the ball and one in navy defending

Vipers A and Vipers B play in the valleys league on Thursdays from September to April, with a shorter summer league for those who cannot stop.

Training is on Wednesdays from 8pm in the sports hall. Nerys picks the teams and tells you why, and she rotates positions in the B team more than some people would like. It is how people find out they are a wing defence rather than the shooter they always assumed they were.

Places go on turning up as much as on talent. If you make training and you are prepared to umpire once in a while, you will get games. The A team takes it fairly seriously. The B team takes it seriously until about nine o'clock.

We provide match dresses, which go home with you for the season on a small deposit. Everybody takes a turn at bringing the oranges, and everybody takes a turn at umpiring once they have the award.

What is included

  • Wednesday training with Nerys
  • A team place based on effort and availability
  • Match dress for the season on a £10 deposit
  • A share of the umpiring, with support for your award

What it costs

£12 a month, plus £3 a match towards court and umpire. Club membership £20 a year. First session free. Every price is on the prices list, and your first session is free whichever you pick.

Questions about league teams

I played at university. Which team would I go in?

Come and train for two or three weeks. Nerys will tell you where she sees you, and she will be honest.

Do you have other league teams?

Just the two at the moment, with a third in the works if numbers keep growing.

What about nails and jewellery?

Short nails and no jewellery on court, under the rules of the game. Tape over a ring does not count.

Your first session is free. Bring trainers and some nerve.

You do not need to be fit, young or any good at all. Come along, try a bib on, and see who is laughing by the end of the warm-up. It is usually everyone.
