The other half
Club socials
Chips after Tuesdays, a Christmas do, a summer tournament with silly rules, and a quiz that gets out of hand. Everyone is welcome, players or not.

A netball club is about one-third netball. The rest of it is people looking out for each other, and quite a lot of chips.
There is a pub trip after most Tuesday sessions, usually to the nearest place with a fire and a kitchen. There is no obligation to drink, and nobody will count. A monthly quiz runs in the winter, and the summer tournament on the outdoor court involves fancy dress, oranges and rules that change each round.
Our WhatsApp group is where people find lifts, babysitters, second-hand trainers and, on one occasion, a kidney specialist. New members get added once they have been a couple of times, and they can leave whenever they like.
If you have just moved here, had a baby, lost someone or retired, this is a good place to know some people. You do not have to play to come along.

Questions about club socials
Do I have to play netball?
No. Partners, friends and retired players are all welcome.
Is it all about drinking?
Not at all. Half of us are driving, and the chips are the main event.
Your first session is free. Bring trainers and some nerve.
You do not need to be fit, young or any good at all. Come along, try a bib on, and see who is laughing by the end of the warm-up. It is usually everyone.
