Juniors

Hatchlings from seven on Saturdays, Young Vipers and Senior Juniors on Mondays. £3 a session, DBS-checked coaches, and a named welfare officer.

There are three junior groups, sorted by age. Hatchlings play with a smaller ball and a lower post; by the time they reach Senior Juniors they are on a full court with proper rules.

We do not cut anyone. If a child turns up, she plays, and boys are welcome too up to the age when the league rules step in. Coaches split groups by confidence rather than by talent, and they rotate positions, so that the tall girl does not spend her whole childhood standing under the post.

All of our coaches and helpers are DBS-checked and first-aid trained. Our welfare officer is Grace Thomas, who is also the club chair and does not coach juniors. Her number is on the hall door and in the welcome pack. Ring her about anything at all. Parents can stay and watch, and for Hatchlings at least one parent must stay on site.

We do not put names or close-up photographs of children on this website, and we only use group photographs with a parent's written consent.

Questions about juniors

My daughter is shy. Will she cope?

Almost all of them are shy for one session. Tell the coach, and they will pair her up with someone kind.

Are there matches?

Young Vipers play friendly matches some Saturdays, and Senior Juniors can play in a local junior league. Nobody has to.

What if my child has an additional need?

Tell us what helps. We have a good record of working it out together, and we will say so honestly if we cannot.

Your first session is free. Bring trainers and some nerve.

You do not need to be fit, young or any good at all. Come along, try a bib on, and see who is laughing by the end of the warm-up. It is usually everyone.
