The whole weekend was ours and it felt like it. Friday fish and chips in the Courtyard, Saturday with 160 at the long tables and 220 for the band, Sunday breakfast in the Snug in our pyjamas. Ceri had a radio and a plan for everything, including the rain that never came. The food was the best wedding food anyone had eaten and they still say so.

We saved three thousand on a Thursday and 94 of the 104 we invited came. Same barn, same view, same Tomos. The lie-in on Friday was the best decision of the whole wedding.
Dark by half four and the barn was all candles and fires. Eighty guests, a pie course, mulled cider at the door, and a Saturday for £3,950 that would have been eight in June. Guests kept their coats on for the photographs and off for everything else.
Thirty-two of us at one long table in the Cowshed, and it felt full, not small. We had looked at big venues where thirty people would have rattled. The Snug for the evening with the fire and a guitarist, and four rooms across the yard. £2,450. Perfect.
Forty of us, two days, the Stables and dinner at the long table; the best away-day we have run and the team still talk about the cookery challenge. Four stars because the wifi dropped twice during the Tuesday morning session and we lost ten minutes each time. Ceri was honest about it and the price reflected it.
Dad's sixtieth with 140 people, a hog roast, the Black Mountain Band and the fire pit going till one. It was a party in a barn, not a function in a hotel, and that was exactly the difference we wanted.
About the four stars
The wifi dropped twice in a morning. It now has a second line and a battery.
Hannah's company lost ten minutes twice on a Tuesday morning when the rural line fell over, which it had done before and we had hoped it would not do again. Hoping is not a plan. There is now a second connection over 5G that takes over automatically, a battery that keeps the router up through a power blip, and a wired point at the top table for whoever is presenting. We knocked the day rate down for Hannah and told her what we had done, and she came back in September.
