How we run it

Four things that are true of every event here.

One wedding a weekend

We take seventy events a year and never two in a weekend, so the team that set up on Thursday is the team on the day and the one clearing up on Sunday. Nobody is turning the room between you and a Sunday party.

A coordinator, not a sales person

Ceri or Lowri runs your day from the first viewing to the last taxi: one person, their mobile number, a timeline built with you, suppliers briefed, and on the day a radio and a plan for the rain.

No hidden hours

Hire runs from Friday 2pm to Sunday 11am on the weekend package, with set-up on Friday and a lie-in on Sunday. Midweek is 10am to midnight. We do not charge for the hour the band overran or the extra morning you need for the florist.

What the price includes

Tables, chairs, linen, crockery, glassware, the bar, the lights, the fire pit, the sound system, the cleaning and the staff to run it. The only extras are the tipi, extra nights and the things you bring yourselves.

  • 180seated at long tables in the Barn
  • 12bedrooms in the Stables, sleeping 26

The kitchen

Our own chef, our own kitchen, and a tasting before you decide.

Tomos and four cooks work from a kitchen built into the Barn in 2017, open to the room through a hatch. Lamb from the farm up the lane, vegetables from the Usk valley, bread baked that morning. The feasting menu is £78 a head for three courses served to the table on platters; plated is £95; the evening is £16. You pick it at a tasting for four, included, and dietary needs are cooked for rather than worked around. We do not allow outside caterers and we say so up front.

  • Feasting £78, plated £95, canapés £14, evening £16 a head
  • Drinks package £32 a head; corkage £12 if you bring wine
  • A tasting for four before you choose, included
A feasting table with sharing platters of roast Welsh lamb and roasted vegetables being passed by guests in candlelight

The tour

Walk it from your sofa, then come and stand in it.

The tour page has a six-stop walk-through of the Barn, the Cowshed, the Courtyard, the Snug, the Stables and the Meadow, with the capacity for each, and the 3D tour embeds there when the scan is done. Then a viewing: an hour, Tuesday to Saturday, at the time of day your ceremony would be, so you see the light you will actually get.

Weekend

The whole weekend was ours and it felt like it. Friday fish and chips in the Courtyard, Saturday with 160 at the long tables and 220 for the band, Sunday breakfast in the Snug in our pyjamas. Ceri had a radio and a plan for everything, including the rain that never came. The food was the best wedding food anyone had eaten and they still say so.

Ffion and JackThe weekend, July
Midweek

We saved three thousand on a Thursday and 94 of the 104 we invited came. Same barn, same view, same Tomos. The lie-in on Friday was the best decision of the whole wedding.

Sara and TomThe midweek, a Thursday in June
Winter

Dark by half four and the barn was all candles and fires. Eighty guests, a pie course, mulled cider at the door, and a Saturday for £3,950 that would have been eight in June. Guests kept their coats on for the photographs and off for everything else.

Questions people ask before they visit

What does it cost?

The weekend (Friday 2pm to Sunday 11am, exclusive use, all twelve bedrooms both nights) £7,950; the midweek £4,950; the winter £3,950; a small wedding for up to forty £2,450; a corporate day £1,850; a party evening £2,950. All including VAT. Feasting is £78 a head and the drinks package £32. A £1,500 deposit holds the date.

How many people can we have?

The Barn seats 180 at long tables or 150 at rounds and takes 240 standing; the Cowshed is licensed for ceremonies of 120 and the Barn for 200; the Meadow tipi adds 150 seated or 250 standing from May to September. The capacity page has every space and layout.

Is it exclusive use?

Always. One event at a time, every space and every bedroom yours, no public bar and no other party. We take seventy events a year and never two in a weekend.

Can we bring our own caterer?

No, and we say so up front: Tomos and the kitchen do all the food, because it is the thing people remember and we will not hand it to a van. You choose the menu at a tasting for four, included, and dietary needs are cooked for, not worked around. Wine and fizz you may bring at £12 a bottle corkage.

Is our date free?

The enquiry page has a date picker; send it with your rough numbers and the package and Ceri replies within the working day, with a viewing if it is free and two honest alternatives if it is not. Weekend Saturdays go about eighteen months out; midweek and winter dates are open much closer.

Pick a date, tell us the numbers, and come and stand in it.
