The team

Our own crews, our own vans.

Fourteen of us: Dai, Sioned, two in the office and ten on the vans, all employed, none subcontracted, trained at the depot and DBS-checked for the care-home and school work. The crew that quotes is the crew that turns up, and the vans are ours and serviced in the yard.

The people

Dai Rees, a Welsh man in his early fifties with cropped grey hair in a navy polo shirt, arms folded in front of a white removals lorry

Dai Rees

Owner. The surveys, the quotes, and still the lorry on a Saturday

Started with one van and a mate in 2009 after fifteen years driving for a national firm, where he learned how a lorry wants loading and what not to say to a customer. Dai does most of the video surveys and every quote, drives the 7.5-tonne on Saturdays because he likes it, and will tell you honestly if a job is better done by someone else. The hourly price on the website was his idea; the rest of the trade said it would never work.

Sioned Walker, a woman in her mid-thirties with dark hair tied back, in a navy polo shirt holding a tablet in a depot office with a wall planner

Sioned Walker

Operations manager. The diary, the office moves, the storage, the crews

Joined in 2016 from a logistics firm in Newport and now runs the diary, the twelve crew, the sixty storage units and every office move. If you ring the office it is Sioned or one of her two office staff, and the move that happens on the day was planned on her wall the fortnight before. She wrote the checklist, and she checks the crews follow it.

  • 1,400+moves a year from the Leckwith depot
  • 4van sizes, each priced by the hour
  • 24hour access to your storage unit
  • 4.9average rating

The crews

Ten on the vans, and how they got there.

Employed, not hired by the day

Every crew member is on the payroll with a pension and sick pay, which is why they are still here: the average is six years with us and the longest is fourteen. Agency labour is how you get a stranger carrying your grandmother's dresser.

Trained here, checked

Three months as the third person on a lorry before anyone leads a job; manual handling, piano and stair-climber training in the yard; a DBS check for every crew member because a third of our work is care homes, schools and vulnerable people.

The same faces

The crew lead who did your video survey is on your job, and if that is impossible we tell you who is coming and why. On a long-distance move the crew that loads is the crew that unloads, four hundred miles later.

The office

Sioned, Bethan and Rhys answer the phone between eight and six and know where every van is. If you ring at ten past six you get Dai's mobile, and he answers it.

Three white removals vehicles of different sizes lined up in a yard with the Cardiff skyline behind

The vans

Nine vehicles, all ours, serviced in the yard on a Sunday.

Three medium vans, two long-wheelbase, three Lutons with tail lifts and the 7.5-tonne lorry, none older than five years, all with blankets, straps, a sack truck and a first-aid kit, and all serviced by the mechanic who comes to the yard on Sundays. A van that breaks down on your moving day is our problem and we have a spare; it has happened twice in sixteen years and both moves finished on the day.

What each van holds

Bedrooms in, a figure out. Then a video survey and a quote in writing.

The estimate page turns the number of bedrooms into a van, a crew and a price before you ring. The quote form takes two minutes; Dai or Sioned replies within the working day with a video survey slot the same week, and the quote after it is the figure on the invoice.
