Removals and self-storage from a depot at Leckwith: four sizes of van with the rate of each, our own crews in vans we own, a packing team, pianos and offices, and sixty storage units with a fob that works at 3am. A medium van with two of us is £65 an hour; a three-bed house is usually £850 to £1,100.

How much, roughly?

Pick the bedrooms and the estimate page gives you the van, the crew, the hours and the figure, before you ring anyone.

The vans

Four sizes, four rates.

What each one holds
A small white van being loaded with boxes outside an apartment blockUp to a one-bed

The medium van

£65 an hour, 2 crew

A high-roof medium van: about 35 boxes plus a one-bed flat's furniture, or a student room twice over. The right tool for most flats and for a sofa and a bed across town.

  • 35boxes
  • 2crew
  • 3hminimum

Fits: A one-bed flat or a studio; a single room with furniture; a sofa, a bed and a wardrobe.

Two movers carrying stacked boxes down a garden path from a brick houseA big one-bed or a small two-bed

The long wheelbase

£75 an hour, 2 crew

A long-wheelbase high-roof van: about 60 boxes plus the furniture of a big one-bed or a sparse two-bed. Fits where a Luton cannot, which matters in Pontcanna.

  • 60boxes
  • 2crew
  • 3hminimum

Fits: A big one-bed; a two-bed flat with little furniture; a two-bed when access is tight.

A white Luton removals lorry with its tail lift down outside terraced housesTwo to three bedrooms

The Luton

£85 an hour, 2 crew

A 3.5-tonne Luton with a tail lift: about 100 boxes plus the furniture of a two-bed or a modest three-bed. The van most house moves use; the tail lift makes the fridge and the washing machine a one-minute job.

  • 100boxes
  • 2crew
  • 3hminimum

Fits: A two-bed house; a three-bed with modest furniture; a two-bed plus the garage and the shed.

The inside of a removals lorry loaded with blanket-wrapped furniture and strapped boxesThree to five bedrooms

The 7.5-tonne lorry

£110 an hour, 3 crew

A 7.5-tonne lorry with three crew: about 180 boxes plus the furniture of a three- or four-bed house in one load. For five bedrooms and up it goes twice or we send two.

  • 180boxes
  • 3crew
  • 3hminimum

Fits: A three- or four-bed house in one load; an office of up to twenty desks; a long-distance full load.

Including VAT, fuel within 30 miles of the depot, blankets, straps, a sack truck and £10,000 of goods-in-transit cover. Three hours minimum, then by the half hour.

Removals

Six things we do, each priced.

All six

01

Home removals

The whole house, across Cardiff or across the country: a video survey the week before, the right van for the load, a crew who have done it a thousand times, blankets on everything wooden, and the beds built at the other end. Priced by the hour and estimated by bedrooms on this website, so you know before you ring.

By the hour: £65 (medium van), £75 (long wheelbase), £85 (Luton), £110 (7.

02

Flat and student moves

A one-bed in the Bay, a student house in Cathays, a room in a shared flat: the medium van, two of us, three hours minimum, and a figure of £195 to £260 for most flats. We know every car park, service lift and awkward stairwell in Cardiff Bay and we bring the parking suspension if the street needs one.

£65 an hour for the medium van and two crew, three hours minimum (£195), including VAT.

03

Packing service

A team comes the day before and packs everything: kitchen in paper, pictures in corners and card, clothes on hanging rails, books in small boxes, every box labelled by room. Boxes, tape, paper and bubble included, and unpacked at the other end if you want that too. Or a box pack delivered to do it yourself.

One-bed £250, two-bed £380, three-bed £520, four-bed £650, including materials and VAT.

04

Pianos and specialist moves

Upright pianos, grand pianos, safes, American fridges, large glass, antiques, gym equipment and the things that need a window out: a crew trained for them, a piano trolley and skid board, sash cords, a stair-climber for the heavy stuff, and a figure quoted before the day rather than discovered on it.

Upright piano £180 added to a move, from £240 on its own within Cardiff, stairs priced per flight.

05

Office moves

Offices of five to a hundred desks across Cardiff and Newport: crates delivered and labelled the week before, desks dismantled and rebuilt, IT disconnected and reconnected by your people or ours, the move on a Friday night or a weekend, and everyone sitting at the right desk on Monday. A project lead, a floor plan and a crate count.

06

Long distance and Europe

A move from Cardiff to London, Manchester, Edinburgh or Cornwall is a fixed price rather than an hourly one: the video survey, a lorry sized for the load, a crew who sleep over, and delivery the next morning. Part-loads to share a lorry on the regular London and Bristol runs cost less if your dates are flexible. Ireland and France, Spain and the Netherlands quoted.

Fixed price after the video survey.

How we work

Four things that are true of every job.

We turn up at the time we said

Crews leave the depot at 7:30 and the first job is loading by eight. If the day before overruns we ring you the night before, not from the van, and we have never left a move to the next day in sixteen years.

Nothing is quoted "from"

The hourly rate is the rate, the minimum is three hours, and the quote you get after the video survey is the figure on the invoice unless you add things on the day, which we price in front of you before we lift them.

Covered, properly

£10,000 of goods-in-transit cover and £5 million public liability on every job, included. Higher cover for valuable or unusual items is £12 per extra £1,000 and we say so on the quote. Breakages are rare and paid for within the week.

The awkward stuff is ours

Pianos, American fridges, the wardrobe that came up the stairs in pieces, the sofa that will not go round the landing. We bring the piano trolley, the sash cords and the window man if it needs one, and we say if it needs one before the day.

Storage

Sixty units at Leckwith, £22 to £105 a week, and your fob works at 3am.

From a 25-square-foot locker for a student's boxes to a 200-square-foot double garage for a whole house: dry, alarmed, on camera, one floor, no steps, a loading bay under a canopy and a trolley by the door. No minimum stay beyond a week and a week's notice to leave. Or a container in our warehouse that we collect and bring back, £28 a week, for a house between homes.

  • 24-hour access, 7 days, with your own fob
  • Moved in and out at the hourly rate, or bring it yourself
  • Six extra-wide units for wheelchair users
A bright self-storage corridor with rows of orange roller-shutter doors, a woman with a trolley of boxes at an open unit
A mover in a navy polo shirt wrapping plates in packing paper at a kitchen counter beside open boxes with coloured tape

The checklist

The moving-day checklist our crews work from, from two weeks before to the week after.

Thirty-one things in four phases: who to tell, what to measure, when to defrost the freezer, what travels in the car and not the van, and what to check before you hand the keys in. Tick them off on the page and it remembers; print it and we will have the same sheet on the dashboard.

Home move

Three-bed, the Luton and two lads, 7:45 on the dot. Everything wrapped, the beds rebuilt, nothing scratched, and the price was the one in the email: £980 against an estimate on the website of £850 to £1,100. The video survey meant they knew about the piano before they arrived.

Rachel and SamWhitchurch to Bristol
Flat move

One-bed, medium van, three hours, £195. They had the lift booked at the new place before I had thought of it and knew the loading bay would be a problem. Done by half eleven.

Packing

I booked the packing service in a panic ten days before completion. Three of them did the whole four-bed in a day, labelled by room, with a list on the fridge, and the move the next day took five hours instead of the eight I had been dreading. Best £650 of the whole process.

Questions people ask before they ring

What does a move cost?

By the hour, including VAT, fuel within 30 miles and £10,000 of cover: the medium van with two crew £65, the long wheelbase £75, the Luton with a tail lift £85, the 7.5-tonne lorry with three crew £110, three hours minimum. The estimate page turns bedrooms into a figure (a three-bed is usually £850 to £1,100); the quote after a free video survey replaces it and is the figure on the invoice.

How far ahead do I need to book?

Saturdays and the last Friday of the month go two to three weeks out; midweek is often possible the same week. Completion dates move, and we hold a provisional date with a £100 deposit and move it once free of charge.

Do you do storage?

Sixty units at Leckwith from 25 to 200 square feet, £22 to £105 a week, with your own fob and 24-hour access, no minimum stay beyond a week and a week's notice to leave. Or a container in our warehouse that we collect and return at £28 a week, which suits a whole house between homes.

Are you insured?

Yes: £10,000 of goods-in-transit cover and £5 million public liability on every job, included, with the certificate on the quote. Higher cover for valuable items is £12 per extra £1,000, arranged the week before. We are members of the trade association and its deposit scheme.

What will you not move?

Gas bottles, paint, petrol, fireworks and anything the law calls hazardous; plants on a long-distance job in summer, because they die; pets, obviously. Fridges must be defrosted, washing machines drained, and we ask about the piano before the day, not on it.

Bedrooms in, a figure out. Then a video survey and a quote in writing.

The estimate page turns the number of bedrooms into a van, a crew and a price before you ring. The quote form takes two minutes; Dai or Sioned replies within the working day with a video survey slot the same week, and the quote after it is the figure on the invoice.
