Home move

Three-bed, the Luton and two lads, 7:45 on the dot. Everything wrapped, the beds rebuilt, nothing scratched, and the price was the one in the email: £980 against an estimate on the website of £850 to £1,100. The video survey meant they knew about the piano before they arrived.

Flat move

One-bed, medium van, three hours, £195. They had the lift booked at the new place before I had thought of it and knew the loading bay would be a problem. Done by half eleven.

Packing

I booked the packing service in a panic ten days before completion. Three of them did the whole four-bed in a day, labelled by room, with a list on the fridge, and the move the next day took five hours instead of the eight I had been dreading. Best £650 of the whole process.

Storage

A whole house in a 100-square-foot unit between selling and buying. 24-hour access meant I could collect the Christmas tree at nine at night. £62 a week, no notice period nonsense, and they moved it in and out at the hourly rate.

Office move

Thirty desks moved over a weekend, everyone sitting down on Monday, crates collected on the Wednesday. Four stars because the IT contractor they introduced us to was slower than promised and two monitors were still not connected at nine on Monday; Sioned had someone there by ten and was straight about it. The furniture side was faultless.

Long distance

Fixed price of £3,100 for a four-bed, loaded Thursday, delivered Friday morning by the same three men who had loaded it. They slept in a Premier Inn and were at the new house before we were. Nothing broken across four hundred miles.

About the four stars

The IT contractor we introduced was late. We now use a different one, and we put it in writing.

Beth's office moved over a weekend and the furniture side went to plan; the IT contractor we had recommended did not have everyone reconnected by nine on Monday, and two monitors were still dark at ten. That is not a furniture problem but it was our introduction, so it is ours. We changed contractor, the office-move quote now states in writing who is responsible for IT and by what hour, and Sioned is on site at eight on the Monday of every office move until the last screen is on.
