Solar and battery, Porthcawl

The surveyor told us the back roof was not worth panelling and put twelve on the front instead, which cost us less than the other quote. The estimate said about 4,700 units; the first full year did 4,610. Scaffold up Monday, generating Tuesday afternoon.

Gwyn and Mair
Air source heat pump, Pyle

They measured every room, changed three radiators and left the rest. The grant came straight off the invoice; we never saw a form. Our first winter the house was warmer than with the old gas boiler, at a lower flow temperature than I thought possible.

Lisa
Dairy farm, commercial roof

Ninety kilowatts on the parlour and the cubicle shed. They got the G99 through, put a structural engineer on the old purlins, and fitted it around milking without once getting in the way. The milk cooling runs on it most of the summer.

Dafydd
EV charger, Kenfig Hill

Fitted in a morning, tidy cable run, and the solar mode means my car charges from the roof on sunny afternoons. They set the overnight schedule on the app before they left and explained it twice without sighing.

Andrea
Solar, Bridgend

Four stars because the installation date moved by a week when the scaffolders were rained off, and I had booked the day off work. They rang two days before and were apologetic. The system itself has been faultless and is producing slightly more than the estimate.

Peter
Inverter repair, another installer's system

Our original installer had vanished and the inverter had died without us noticing for four months. Southside came out, confirmed it, fitted a hybrid replacement for £1,150 and checked the panels while they were up. Honest and quick.

About the four stars

Scaffolders cannot work in a gale.

Peter is right that his date moved by a week, and that is a real cost when you have booked a day off. Scaffold cannot go up safely in high wind, and on the coast that happens more often than anyone would like. We now book a second date at the same time as the first, so if the weather takes the first one you already know when we are coming instead.
