The bench on Castle Street, for homes and small offices

PC and laptop repairs

Laptop and desktop repairs at the counter on Castle Street: screens, keyboards, batteries, charging ports, slow machines, viruses and failed drives, with a £25 diagnosis waived if you go ahead and a fixed labour price for the common jobs.

An opened laptop on an anti-static repair mat with the bottom panel removed, a replacement SSD and a precision screwdriver beside it, and a technician's hands

The repair counter is the front of the shop. Bring in a laptop that will not charge, a PC that takes ten minutes to start or a screen with a crack across it, and Ceri will tell you at the counter what it probably is, what it will cost and whether it is worth doing.

Every machine is booked in with a ticket, photographed, and its data copied to an encrypted drive before anything is opened, unless you tell us not to. We diagnose within a working day, ring you with a fixed price including the part, and do nothing until you say yes. If the repair is not worth it, a six-year-old laptop with a failed board, say, we tell you, charge the diagnosis only, and can move your files to whatever you buy next.

Most of what comes in is one of a dozen jobs, and those have a fixed labour price on the repairs page. The commonest by far is a slow laptop with a spinning hard drive: a solid-state drive and a clean copy of Windows with your files put back makes it faster than the day it was bought, for £79 with the drive.

What is included

  • A diagnosis within a working day, £25, waived if you go ahead
  • Your data copied before the machine is opened
  • A fixed price including parts before any work

What it costs

Diagnosis £25, waived if the repair goes ahead. Most bench repairs are back in two working days. SSD upgrade with a 500 GB drive £79. Prices exclude VAT. The plan picker prices a monthly plan from your people and devices, and the repair list has the fixed labour price for the common bench jobs.

Questions about pC and laptop repairs

Do you repair Macs?

Software, data recovery, SSD upgrades on models that allow it, and batteries on the older MacBooks. Logic boards and screens on recent MacBooks go to an Apple-authorised repairer, and we tell you that at the counter rather than after a week.

What happens to my data?

It is copied to an encrypted drive before we start and deleted from it when you collect. We do not look through it. If you would rather we did not copy it, tick the box on the booking-in ticket.

Ring the desk, or bring it in.
