The job

The conservatory was too hot in July, too cold in January and leaking at the box gutter. The owners wanted a kitchen-diner that worked all year and a view of the garden that did not involve condensation.

We removed the conservatory and the old patio, dug trench-fill foundations, and built the extension in brick to match the house with a warm flat roof and a 2.5 metre roof lantern. A steel goalpost frame carries the four-panel sliding door; the old kitchen wall came out in week nine, the last structural job, so the family cooked in their own kitchen until then.

The kitchen was supplied by the owners and fitted by us in the final fortnight, with underfloor heating under a large-format porcelain floor.
