Emergency lockouts

Locked out, keys lost, a snapped key, a lock that will not turn, a door slammed behind you: ring, and a DBS-checked locksmith is on the way within minutes with a text to say who and when. Non-destructive entry in ninety-seven cases out of a hundred, the price agreed on the phone, and the lock changed the same visit if the keys are gone.

A lockout is the job we do most and the one people dread ringing about, because the trade has a reputation for a man who arrives in an unmarked car, drills the lock, and presents a bill for four hundred pounds. So: the price is on this page, the locksmith is named and checked and in a marked van, and the lock is opened rather than destroyed in nearly every case. If a lock does need drilling we say so before we start and the replacement is priced here too.

When you ring, the person who answers asks what kind of door and lock you have (a photo by text helps), tells you the price, and sends the nearest locksmith. You get a text with their name, photo and an arrival time; our average across Newport this year is thirty-eight minutes and the promise is within the hour. On arrival they ask for proof that you live there (ID, a letter, a neighbour, or a check once you are in) because we open doors for people who are entitled to be behind them.

Entry is by picking, bypass or a letterbox tool, which takes two to twenty minutes and leaves the lock as it was. If the keys are lost or stolen we recommend a new cylinder on the spot (£85 standard, £120 anti-snap) so that whoever has the keys does not have your house. If you are locked out because a uPVC door has dropped and the mechanism has jammed, the entry is the same price and the repair is quoted before it is done.

Questions about lockouts

What if I cannot prove I live there?

We open the door, and we check before we leave: a driving licence or a letter inside, a neighbour, or the landlord on the phone. We have never refused a genuine lockout and never opened a door we should not have.

Do you charge extra for a snapped key?

No. Extracting a broken key is part of the lockout price. If the key is in the lock and the lock is undamaged you may not need a new cylinder at all.

Locked out? Ring. Anything else, book a slot.

The emergency line is answered by one of us, 24 hours a day, and a lockout is a fixed price on the phone before anyone leaves the van. For a lock change, a uPVC repair, a car key or a safe, the booking form takes two minutes and we reply within the working day with a two-hour slot.
