A price on the phone, before we leaveA lockout is £69 in the day and £99 at night, the whole job, within ten miles of the shop. Every other job is priced on this website or quoted on the phone from what you describe, and the figure does not change at the door unless you change the job.
DBS-checked, named, in a marked vanEvery locksmith who comes to your door has an enhanced DBS check renewed yearly, carries photo ID with our number on it, and arrives in a marked van. You get a text with their name and photo when they set off. We say this because the trade has people who are none of those things.
Non-destructive firstNinety-seven lockouts in a hundred are opened with picks, bypass tools or a letterbox tool and the lock is still yours afterwards. Drilling is the last resort, we say so before we do it, and a replacement cylinder is priced on this website.
Within the hour, across NewportTwo vans on the road day and night from Caerleon Road, so a lockout in Newport, Caerleon, Cwmbran or Risca averages thirty-eight minutes. Chepstow, Pontypool and the Cardiff side are within the hour; beyond that we say honestly how long.

Services

Six things we do, each priced.

All six

01

Emergency lockouts

Locked out, keys lost, a snapped key, a lock that will not turn, a door slammed behind you: ring, and a DBS-checked locksmith is on the way within minutes with a text to say who and when. Non-destructive entry in ninety-seven cases out of a hundred, the price agreed on the phone, and the lock changed the same visit if the keys are gone.

£69 from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Saturday; £99 from 8pm to 8am, Sundays and bank holidays.

02

Lock fitting and replacement

New locks for a new house, lost keys, a tenant change, a divorce, an insurer's letter or a lock that has just worn out: supplied and fitted at a price on this website, with the grade your insurer asks for, the old lock bagged and the keys tried in your hand. Booked jobs get a two-hour slot and a text on the way.

Standard euro cylinder £85; TS007 3-star anti-snap £120; BS3621 five-lever mortice £135; BS3621 nightlatch £125; all supplied, fitted and including VAT, with three keys.

03

uPVC doors and windows

The door that has to be lifted to lock, the handle that has gone floppy, the key that turns but nothing happens, the window that will not lock: most are the mechanism, the hinges or the alignment, not the whole door. We carry the common mechanisms, gearboxes, handles and hinges on the van and fix most of them in one visit at a price on this page.

Realign, adjust and service £55.

04

Burglary repairs and securing

After a break-in: the door or frame made secure that night, a new lock so the house is yours again, the frame repaired, the window boarded until the glazier, and a crime number and an invoice your insurer accepts. Then a walk round with you to find the next weak point before someone else does.

£140 for the first hour including the call-out at any time of day or night, making the house secure and a written report for the insurer; parts at the published prices; boarding a window from £60.

05

Commercial, landlords and master keys

For businesses, landlords and letting agents: lock changes between tenants at a fixed price, master-key suites so one key opens everything and tenants' keys open only theirs, keypad and smart locks on office doors, panic bars and fire-exit hardware that meets the regulations, and an account with a 24-hour number and a monthly invoice.

Tenant changeover cylinder £75 fitted on account.

06

Car keys and safes

Lost the only car key, or the fob has died: a new key cut and programmed to the car at your driveway, from £95, usually half the dealer's price and the same day. Forgotten the combination, lost the key or inherited a safe: opened from £120, nearly always without damage, and a new lock or combination fitted so it is yours again.

Car keys: a cut-and-programmed key from £95, a remote fob from £145, an all-keys-lost from £180, at your car, most makes.

How we work

Four things that are true of every call.

We answer the phone ourselves

Day or night it is Gareth, Ffion or one of the two other locksmiths, not a call centre two hundred miles away that sells the job to whoever is nearest. The person who answers knows the price and knows who is on the road.

Insurance-rated locks, explained

Most home insurers require a BS3621 lock on wooden doors or a TS007 3-star cylinder on uPVC and composite doors. The lock guide on this website explains the grades in plain English, and every lock we fit meets the standard your insurer asks for.

The price promise

The price on the phone is the price on the invoice, including VAT and the call-out, unless the job changes and we have agreed the change with you first. If a locksmith with a DBS check and a shop in Newport quotes less in writing, we match it.

We tidy up and we show you

Swarf hoovered, the old lock in a bag if you want it, the new keys tried in your hand, the door closed and opened twice from outside, and a card with the invoice number. If anything we fitted fails in the first year, we come back free.

24 hours

What happens when you ring at three in the morning.

One of us answers, not a call centre. We ask what kind of door and lock, tell you the price, and send the nearest van; you get a text with the locksmith's name, photo and arrival time. Within the hour across Newport, Caerleon, Cwmbran and Risca, and we tell you honestly if it will be longer. On arrival we check you are entitled to be there, open the door without damage wherever the lock allows, and change the cylinder on the spot if the keys are gone.

The lock guide

BS3621, TS007, three stars: what your insurer means, in plain English.

Most policies require a BS3621 lock on wooden doors and a TS007 3-star cylinder on uPVC and composite doors, and a claim can be refused if the lock did not meet it. The lock guide explains each grade, where it belongs and what it costs fitted, and every invoice we write carries the grade so you can show them.

Lockout

Locked out with a toddler asleep inside. Rang at 11:04, Gareth was there at 11:31 with a text on the way with his photo, had the door open in four minutes without a mark on the lock, and charged £99, which is what the woman on the phone had said. I had been quoted "from £59" by a national number that turned out to be a man in a Corsa.

Lock fitting

New house, wanted every lock changed. Ffion came in the two-hour slot, did three cylinders keyed alike and a mortice on the back door, explained the 3-star thing without any pressure, hoovered the swarf and put the grades on the invoice for the insurer. £425 all in, as quoted.

DevCaerleon, lock change
uPVC doors

The door I had been lifting to lock for two years. Twenty-five minutes with an Allen key and some grease, £55, and it closes like new. The double-glazing man had quoted me £1,400 for a new door.

The shop

22 Caerleon Road, by the chemist: keys cut while you wait, locks and safes on the shelf.

A real shop with a counter, which matters: a locksmith with premises is one you can find again. Keys from £4 while you wait, locks and door furniture to take away or have fitted, safes to order, and whoever is in will give you a price for anything on this website.

  • The shop. 22 Caerleon Road, Newport NP19 7BU, on the corner by the chemist, five minutes' walk from the station across the bridge. Keys cut while you wait, locks, safes, padlocks and door furniture on the shelves, and whoever is in will give you a price for anything on this website.
  • Getting here. Buses along Caerleon Road stop outside. Newport station is a seven-minute walk; the M4 at junction 25 is five minutes by car. On-street parking on Caerleon Road is free for an hour; the car park behind the chemist is two hours free with a ticket.
  • Where we go. Within ten miles of the shop at the published prices: Newport, Caerleon, Cwmbran, Risca, Rogerstone, Magor, Caldicot, Marshfield and the east of Cardiff. Pontypool, Chepstow and Abergavenny at the same prices plus mileage. The emergency page has the response times by area.

Questions people ask before they ring

How much is a lockout?

£69 from 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday, £99 from 8pm to 8am and on Sundays and bank holidays, including VAT and the call-out, for non-destructive entry within ten miles of the shop. If the keys are lost we recommend a new cylinder on the spot at £85 (standard) or £120 (anti-snap). The price on the phone is the price at the door.

How quickly can you get to me?

Within the hour across Newport, Caerleon, Cwmbran and Risca; our average arrival this year is thirty-eight minutes. The emergency page lists every area with a typical time, and when you ring we tell you honestly where the nearest van is.

Will you damage my lock?

In ninety-seven cases out of a hundred, no: picks, bypass tools and letterbox tools open the door and the lock is still yours. Drilling is the last resort, we say so before we do it, and the replacement cylinder is priced on this website.

Are your locksmiths checked?

Every one of us has an enhanced DBS check renewed yearly, carries photo ID with the shop's number on it, and arrives in a marked van; you get a text with the name and photo when we set off. We are members of the Master Locksmiths Association and the certificates are on the wall of the shop.

Which lock does my insurer want?

Usually a BS3621 lock on wooden doors and a TS007 3-star cylinder (or 1-star with 2-star handles) on uPVC and composite doors. The lock guide explains the grades; we put the grade on every invoice so you can show it to them.

Locked out? Ring. Anything else, book a slot.

The emergency line is answered by one of us, 24 hours a day, and a lockout is a fixed price on the phone before anyone leaves the van. For a lock change, a uPVC repair, a car key or a safe, the booking form takes two minutes and we reply within the working day with a two-hour slot.
