Burglary repairs and securing

After a break-in: the door or frame made secure that night, a new lock so the house is yours again, the frame repaired, the window boarded until the glazier, and a crime number and an invoice your insurer accepts. Then a walk round with you to find the next weak point before someone else does.

A locksmith fitting a new heavy-duty strike plate and a five-lever mortice lock to a wooden front door in a terraced house hallway

Nobody wants to ring a locksmith at two in the morning with a kicked-in door and the police just gone, and that is exactly when we are most use. The first hour makes the house secure: the door shut and locked, a temporary or permanent lock, the frame screwed back or a London bar fitted, a window boarded. The rest can wait for daylight, and we come back for it at the day rate.

A kicked door usually fails at the frame, not the lock: the keep tears out of the timber. We repair the frame with a steel strike box and long screws into the stud, or fit a London bar or Birmingham bar along the frame, and replace the lock at the published price. A uPVC door that has been snapped gets a 3-star anti-snap cylinder and, if the mechanism was forced, a new one. We write down what was done, with the lock grades, for the insurance claim, and give you our crime-reference form to send with it.

The next day, if you want it, one of us walks round the house with you: the back door everyone forgets, the patio doors, the window on the flat roof, the side gate. Most break-ins in Newport are through the back, in the day, with no tools. The fixes are usually cheap and we price them on the spot; nothing is pushed.

Questions about burglary repairs

Will my insurer pay for this?

Usually, under the buildings or contents cover for making the property secure after a crime; most policies also cover lock replacement if keys were stolen. We give you an itemised invoice with the lock grades and a report. Ring them first if you can; if you cannot, ring us and sort it in the morning.

Do you do the glass too?

We board; a glazier we trust in Newport reglazes, usually within two days, and we can book them for you.

Locked out? Ring. Anything else, book a slot.

The emergency line is answered by one of us, 24 hours a day, and a lockout is a fixed price on the phone before anyone leaves the van. For a lock change, a uPVC repair, a car key or a safe, the booking form takes two minutes and we reply within the working day with a two-hour slot.
