Tripping, no power, burning smells, flickering
Fault finding and emergencies
An RCD that trips at random, a circuit that is dead, a socket that is warm or a smell of burning: found properly with test equipment, not by swapping parts, and fixed.

A tripping RCD is the commonest call we get and the one most often "fixed" by someone replacing the RCD. It trips because something is leaking current; we find the something.
We test rather than guess: insulation resistance on each circuit, earth leakage, loose connections, damaged cables, water in outside sockets, failed appliances. The usual suspects are an outdoor socket, an immersion heater, a cooker element or a damaged cable from a picture hook; the test tells us which in minutes.
Emergencies, meaning no power at all, a burning smell, sparking or a shock from anything, are same day, and out of hours we answer the phone. If the supply fuse has blown or the meter is at fault, we tell you who to ring and stay until it is safe.

Questions about faults & emergencies
My RCD trips when it rains. Why?
Water getting into an outdoor socket, light or junction box, almost every time. We find which one, dry it out or replace it and seal it properly.
What should I do if I smell burning?
Turn the main switch off at the consumer unit, do not open the board, and ring us. If there is smoke or flame, ring 999 first.
Book an electrician.
Fixed prices on EICRs, boards and chargers, a quote first on everything else, and a slot this week. Loss of power or a burning smell: ring, any hour.
