About

Three electricians. Two vans. One standard.

Dan started Volta in 2014 after five years on commercial sites, where every circuit is tested and every test is written down. He wanted to do domestic work the same way. Eleven years and 3,200 EICRs later, that is still the whole idea.

How we work

Tested, documented, signed. Every job.

Commercial electrical work has a discipline that domestic work often lacks: nothing is energised until it has been tested, and nothing is tested without a written result. We brought that habit home. A socket gets the same insulation resistance test as a factory floor. A board change gets every circuit measured, not just the new ones. And you get the paperwork, as a PDF, the same day.

  • Registered with a government-approved competent person scheme, so we self-certify and notify building control for you
  • All three of us hold the current 18th Edition wiring regulations qualification; Amira also holds inspection and testing
  • Instruments calibrated annually, certificates on request
  • £2m public liability, six-year workmanship guarantee in writing

The team

Who turns up.

One of these three, in a marked van, in a Volta polo, with ID. Nobody is subcontracted.

Dan Hughes

Owner and electrician

Dan did his apprenticeship with a Cardiff contractor, spent five years on commercial installations and started Volta in 2014 to do domestic work the way commercial work is checked: tested, documented, signed. He takes the emergency phone and most of the fault-finding.

Amira Khan

Electrician and inspector

Amira joined in 2018 and does most of the EICRs and the remedial work that follows them. Holds the inspection and testing qualification as well as the 18th Edition, and writes reports that estate agents say they can actually read.

Tom Rees

Electrician

Tom started with us as an apprentice in 2020 and qualified in 2024. Lighting, sockets, kitchens and EV chargers are mostly his, and he is the one who tapes the downlight layout to your ceiling before drilling.

Promises

Four things you can hold us to.

A certificate for everything

Every job that produces a certificate produces one: EICR, electrical installation certificate, minor works. Emailed as a PDF the same day.

Fixed prices, quoted first

EICRs, boards, chargers and call-outs are fixed prices. Anything else is quoted after a look, and the quote is the bill.

Same-week slots

Two vans, a diary that is not overbooked, and a typical wait of two days. Loss of power is same day.

Tidy, and honest about dust

Chasing walls makes dust; we sheet up, hoover, and tell you in advance which rooms will be affected and for how long.

Book an electrician.

Fixed prices on EICRs, boards and chargers, a quote first on everything else, and a slot this week. Loss of power or a burning smell: ring, any hour.
