The group walk is most of what we do. Four dogs at most, chosen so they get on, an hour in the park timed from the gate, and the same walker on the same days so your dog knows who is coming through the door.

We collect between half past nine and eleven and between half past one and three, by foot if you are within ten minutes of the park and by van if you are not. The dogs are matched for size, age and temperament at the meet and greet, and a dog that does not enjoy the group is moved to a solo walk rather than endured. Off-lead needs a reliable recall; until then your dog walks the hour on a long line with the group around it.

Pontcanna Fields in the morning, Llandaff Fields or Bute Park in the afternoon, the Taff Trail when the fields are flooded. Water at the halfway point, a towel at your door if it has rained, and a photo with a line about the walk sent before the walker reaches the next house.

Questions about group walks

Which dogs will mine walk with?

Dogs of a similar size and energy who have met at the park with a walker watching. A spaniel is not put with a pair of boisterous labradors because they happen to be on the same street. Groups stay the same from week to week so the dogs know each other.

Will my dog be off the lead?

Only with a recall we have seen work, and only in the fields, never on the Taff Trail or near the road. Until then, a long line. We will tell you honestly where the recall is.

What if it is pouring?

They go out anyway; this is Cardiff. The walk is in the fields with the trees, your dog comes back towelled, and in a storm with the fields flooded the walk is on the Taff Trail on leads.
