Walks

Six kinds of walk, one price list.

All six

01

Group walks

An hour off the lead in Pontcanna Fields, Llandaff Fields or Bute Park with up to three other dogs matched for size and manners, collected and returned by the same walker. £16, with a photo and a note after every walk.

£16 a walk, £8 for a second dog from the same home.

02

Solo walks

For the reactive, the nervous, the old, the in-season and the ones who simply prefer people to dogs: forty-five minutes alone with a walker, at your dog's pace, on the routes it is happy on. £24.

£24 a walk, £8 for a second dog from the same home walked together.

03

Puppy visits

For a puppy not yet old enough or vaccinated enough for the park: a thirty-minute visit at home in the middle of the day, into the garden, a feed, a play, a little lead work and back in the crate or pen. £14, and it turns into a group walk when the vet says so.

£14 a visit, twice a day £26.

04

Adventure mornings

A three-hour morning in the van and on the hills: the Garth, Castell Coch woods, Forest Farm or the beach at Ogmore in winter, with three other dogs who are fit enough for it. Home muddy, towelled and asleep by two. £38.

£38, second dog £16.

05

Training walks

A one-to-one walk with Ffion working on one thing: recall, loose-lead walking, passing other dogs, or settling in the van. Forty-five minutes, written up afterwards with what to practise at home. £30.

£30 a session, usually one a week for four to six weeks alongside the normal walks.

06

Weekends, holidays and ad hoc

Saturday group walks until two, solo walks and visits on Sundays and bank holidays, and the one-off: a walk because you are in the office for once, a visit because the train is late. Booked by message, confirmed by reply. Small supplements, published.

Saturday +£4 a walk, Sunday and bank holiday +£8, booked after 6pm the evening before +£5.

How we work

Four things you can expect every walk.

The same walker

Your dog gets one walker, who learns the recall word, the dog it does not like and the puddle it always goes in. Cover is a walker your dog has already met.

A proper hour

A group walk is sixty minutes in the park, not sixty minutes including the van. We time it from the gate.

No surprises on the bill

Weekly invoice by email, every walk listed with its date and time. The only extras are the ones in the price list.

The nervous and the old

Solo walks at a slower pace, long lines in the quiet corners of the park, and a text if anything is not right. We have walked dogs of seventeen.

  • 8years walking the Taff
  • 180+walks a week
  • 4dogs on a group walk, never more
  • 4.9average rating

Not every dog wants a group

The reactive, the nervous and the old get a walker to themselves.

A rescue greyhound who cannot pass another dog, a collie of fourteen who wants a slow lap of Thompson's Park and a bench, a spaniel in season: they get a solo walk with Ffion, at the quiet times, on the routes they are happy on. We will tell you honestly if a dog is ready for a group, and we will not keep a sociable dog on the solo rate.

  • Forty-five minutes, one dog, one walker, £24
  • Routes and times planned around what sets your dog off
  • Long lines, head collars and muzzles handled properly

Where we walk

Six places, all within twenty minutes.

All six, with the wet-day plan
A dog walker with four dogs on leads on a tree-lined avenue in Pontcanna FieldsMorning groups

Pontcanna Fields

Pontcanna

  • 4 min from the base
  • Grass and gravel

The big one: the avenue of limes, the open fields, the river bank. Mornings, before the football. Off-lead for the dogs with a recall, and a long line for the rest.

A labrador drinking from a travel bowl held by a walker while two other dogs wait on a park pathAfternoon groups

Llandaff Fields

Llandaff

  • 8 min from the base
  • Grass and tarmac

Across the road from Pontcanna: the tennis-court end for the sniffers, the top field for the runners, the water fountain by the pavilion where we stop halfway.

Bute Park

City centre

  • 12 min from the base
  • Tarmac and grass

In through Blackweir, down the arboretum side, back along the river. Busier than the fields, so leads near the cafe, and the best trees in Cardiff for a dog who likes squirrels.

Group walks

Same walker, Jamie, for three years. Our spaniel sits by the door at twenty past nine on walk days. The photo arrives before Jamie has reached the next house, and the note once said "ate something, watch him", which saved us a vet visit.

Solo walks

Rescue greyhound who could not cope with other dogs. Ffion walks her solo along the Taff on a long line at the times nobody is about, and after six months she walked past a labrador without a sound. We did not think that was possible.

Rob and ElinCanton
Puppy visits

Puppy visits from ten weeks, twice a day, following our crate routine exactly. Note after every visit with what she ate and whether she went. She joined the group walk at five months and has never looked back.

Areas

On foot in Pontcanna and Canton, by van as far as Whitchurch.

The base is a house on Severn Grove, not a shop. Dogs within ten minutes of the fields are collected on foot; the rest come by van with a crate each. We stop at Whitchurch and the river because van time comes out of the walk, and we time the walk from the gate.

  • Pontcanna and Canton. The home patch, on foot: Severn Grove, Cathedral Road, the Pontcanna streets between Llandaff Road and the fields, and Canton as far as Victoria Park. Collected and walked to the park, no van needed.
  • Llandaff and Llandaff North. By van from the base, ten minutes. Llandaff village, the Cathedral end, Fairwater Road and the Llandaff North streets along the Taff. Walked in Llandaff Fields or along the Trail.
  • Riverside and Grangetown. Riverside between the river and Cowbridge Road, and the Grangetown streets up to the Taff Embankment. Walked in Bute Park via the river path or driven to the fields.

Questions people ask before the meet and greet

How does it start?

A free meet and greet at your house or on the fields, up to forty-five minutes: we meet the dog, see how it walks, ask about recall, food, the vet and anything it does not like, and agree the days. Then a trial week. Keys are taken at the meet and greet and held in a coded safe.

How much is it?

A group walk is £16, a solo walk £24, a puppy visit £14, an adventure morning £38, a training walk £30. A second dog from the same home is £8. Five days a week on a standing booking takes 10% off, and the plan builder on the prices page works it out for you.

Who will walk my dog?

One walker, the same days every week, who you meet before the first walk. Cover for holidays is a walker your dog has already walked with. Every walker is DBS checked, first-aid trained and insured, and you can see the certificates.

How many dogs are on a group walk?

Four at the most, and often three. Matched for size and temperament at the meet and greet, and kept together week to week so they know each other. We do not run bigger groups, which is why there is sometimes a wait for a slot.

Do you send updates?

A photo and a short note after every walk or visit, before the walker reaches the next house: where they went, who with, whether they did their business, anything we noticed. If something is wrong you get a call, not a note.

Book a meet and greet.

Free, up to forty-five minutes, at your house or on the fields. We meet the dog, agree the days and the walker, and take a key. Message or ring, or use the form, and we reply within the day.
