The team

Three of us, and you know which one is yours.

Every client has one of the three of us as their accountant, with a direct line and the portal for anything that can wait. Nia runs the limited companies and the planning, Tom the sole traders, landlords and VAT, and Wendy the books and the payrolls.

The people

Nia Howells, a woman in her mid-forties with short dark hair in a teal blouse and dark cardigan, standing in a bright office with bookshelves

Nia Howells

Director, chartered certified accountant. Limited companies, tax planning, the firm

ACCA qualified in 2006 at a mid-sized Cardiff practice, where she spent eight years doing the accounts for businesses whose owners never heard from their accountant between Januaries. Opened Ledger & Vale on Dunraven Place in 2014 to do fixed monthly packages with the planning built in. She looks after the limited company clients and the bigger tax questions, and writes the spring note.

Tom Rees, a man in his mid-thirties with a short beard in a navy jumper over a shirt, standing by a window in a modern office

Tom Rees

Accountant. Sole traders, landlords, VAT, Making Tax Digital, the software

Joined in 2017 and qualified with the AAT, now finishing his ACCA. Tom runs the sole trader and landlord clients and the VAT work, and is the person who set up Making Tax Digital for every client before it was compulsory. He does the software set-ups and the training, and takes the July and January calls, which he says are the best part of the job because the news is rarely as bad as people expect.

Wendy Price, a woman in her late fifties with grey bobbed hair and glasses in a mustard blouse, standing in an office with a filing cabinet and a plant

Wendy Price

Bookkeeper and payroll manager. The weekly books, the payslips, the pensions, the portal

Twenty-five years of bookkeeping for Bridgend businesses, the last nine here. Wendy runs the done-for-you bookkeeping and the payrolls, which means she knows the cash position of forty businesses better than their owners do, and she is the one who raises the query about the £140 cash withdrawal. She also runs the portal and chases the invoices for clients who have asked her to.

  • 12years in Bridgend
  • 480businesses and landlords on a package
  • 1,900returns filed a year, none late
  • 4.9average rating

Qualifications and regulation

What stands behind the three of us.

ACCA

Nia is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the practice holds an ACCA firm registration: professional indemnity insurance, continuing training, a complaints route and anti-money-laundering supervision.

AAT

Tom is a licensed member of the Association of Accounting Technicians and in the final stage of ACCA. Wendy holds the AAT bookkeeping and payroll qualifications and the CIPP payroll certificate.

Software partners

Certified partners with FreeAgent and Xero, which is what gets the software into the package at no extra charge and gets the problems fixed by a person rather than a ticket.

Data and money

Registered with the Information Commissioner; client documents live in the portal, not in email; we never hold client money, which is why there is no client account to worry about.

A bright meeting room in a small accountancy office with a light wood table, four chairs, a large blank monitor on the wall, a plant and a window

The year-end meeting

An hour, once a year, with the figures on the wall and the next year on the table.

Every package includes it: in the meeting room, on video, or at your premises. The accounts are on the screen, but the conversation is about next year: the tax figure and when it is due, whether the salary plan still fits, whether the van or the second employee is affordable, what the cash position says. Clients tell us it is the only hour in the year when someone with the numbers in front of them asks how the business is going and means it.

Tax planning and year end, in the package

Pick a package, or ask which one fits.

Sole trader or landlord £45 a month, limited company £125, VAT-registered £195, all plus VAT, everything in. Tell us what the business is and where you are with it and one of the three of us rings back the same working day with a straight answer, including which package you do not need.
