£125 a month: accounts, corporation tax, confirmation statement, directors' returns, the phone

Limited companies

For a limited company with one or two directors: the statutory accounts and corporation tax return, the confirmation statement, the directors' self assessment returns, dividend paperwork, a salary-and-dividend plan reviewed each spring, the software, and a person to ring, for £125 a month plus VAT.

A limited company has about eleven filing obligations a year, each with its own penalty, and Companies House has started striking off and fining in earnest. The package takes all of them off your desk and puts them in our diary, and adds the one thing most small-company directors never get: a plan for how to pay yourself.

We form the company if it is new (included), register it for corporation tax and PAYE, and set up the software with the bank feed. Through the year the bookkeeping is yours in the app or ours on the bookkeeping add-on; we check it each quarter. At year end we prepare the statutory accounts and the CT600 corporation tax return, file them with Companies House and HMRC when you approve them in the portal, and prepare each director's self assessment return. The confirmation statement, the dividend vouchers and the board minutes are done as they fall due.

Every spring we review your salary-and-dividend mix for the new tax year against the thresholds that have changed, and tell you in a one-page note what to pay yourself and why. We also tell you, unasked, when the company is heading for the VAT threshold, when a pension contribution would save corporation tax, and when a company car is a bad idea, which it usually is.

Questions about limited companies

I already have an accountant. Is switching a hassle?

No. You sign one letter, we write to them for professional clearance and the records, and we pick up from the last filed accounts. There is no charge for switching and nothing is missed in the handover because we check the Companies House and HMRC deadlines ourselves on day one.

Should I be a limited company at all?

Above about £35,000 of profit it usually saves tax; below that the extra admin often costs more than it saves. We will do the sums for your figures on the first call, free, and say which.
