Moss on a roof holds water against the tiles, lifts them as it grows and ends up in the gutters every winter. It needs to come off. It does not need to be blasted off with a pressure washer, which drives water under the tiles and strips the surface that keeps them waterproof.

We work from roof ladders and, on taller houses, a scaffold tower, and take the moss off by hand with scrapers and stiff brushes, tile by tile. Then the whole roof is sprayed with a biocide that kills the spores left in the surface, and it keeps working for months as the rain washes it in.

Last, we clear the gutters and downpipes of everything that came down, with the camera check, because otherwise the moss is in your gutters by Christmas.

We look at the roof as we go. Slipped, cracked or missing tiles and tired ridge mortar are photographed and reported, and a roofer is the right person to fix them. We do not do roof repairs or coatings.
