The short list of things that cannot go in a skip, and what to do with them
What cannot go in, and why
Fridges, televisions, gas bottles, asbestos, paint, tyres, batteries and plasterboard mixed in with everything else: what cannot go in a skip, the law behind each, and what we can take separately, with the prices.

Almost everything from a house or a building job can go in a skip. A short list cannot, either because the law says it must be handled separately or because it is dangerous to the driver and the people sorting at the station. If it ends up in the skip anyway, we have to pull it out by hand at the station and charge for it.
The list: fridges and freezers (the gases), televisions and monitors (electrical waste), gas bottles and fire extinguishers (they explode in the crusher), asbestos (a specialist job by law), paint and solvents unless dried solid, car batteries, tyres, and medical waste. Mattresses are allowed but charged, because each has to be stripped by hand.
Plasterboard has to be kept apart from other waste by law, because mixed with organic waste in landfill it makes hydrogen sulphide. Bag it separately or put it at one end of the skip, and it goes back to make new plasterboard at no extra charge.
What is included
- The list, with the law behind each
- Fridges and freezers collected, £45
- Mattresses collected, £30
- Tyres collected, £10 each
- Plasterboard recycled free if separate
- Asbestos: names of licensed removers
What it costs
Mattresses £30, fridges and freezers £45, tyres £10 each, collected on the same lorry. Plasterboard free if kept separate. Including VAT. The size picker works out the skip for your job, and the delivery checker says whether you need a permit and when we can come.
Questions about waste rules
What happens if something on the list is in the skip?
We pull it out at the station and charge the same as collecting it separately. Hidden asbestos is a different matter: the load is quarantined and the specialist disposal is charged at cost.
Can I burn the garden waste instead?
Please do not: it is a nuisance to neighbours and there are rules. Garden waste in a skip is composted.
Order by two. On your drive tomorrow.
Pick the size, tell us where it goes, and Glyn or one of the drivers drops it with boards under it. Fourteen days, collection, tipping and VAT in the price, and the permit sorted if it goes on the road.
