Wreaths in December, hand-tieds in spring, dahlias in the garden in September, £48

Workshops

Two-hour workshops at the long table in the shop or, in summer, at the cutting garden: a Christmas wreath, a hand-tied bouquet, a spring bulb bowl, a dahlia afternoon in the garden. Six to eight people, tea and cake, everything provided, and you take home what you made. £48, dates on the booking page.

A wreath-making workshop: six people at a long table in a flower shop winding foliage onto rings, with cups of tea and secateurs

The workshops are the nicest two hours of our week and, we are told, of most people's. Six to eight round the long table, a technique taught properly, a great deal of foliage, tea and cake halfway, and something at the end you made and are surprised by.

December is wreaths, every Saturday afternoon and two evenings a week from the last week of November: a moss base, the foliage from the garden and the hedgerows, dried seed heads, ribbon if you want it. Spring is the hand-tied bouquet workshop, which teaches the spiral that makes a bunch stand up in a vase, and a bulb bowl workshop in February. September is the dahlia afternoon at the cutting garden in Llanblethian: pick, condition and arrange, with tea in the garden.

Everything is provided including an apron, and you take home what you made. Workshops are £48 and fill a month ahead; the dates and spaces are on the booking page. A private workshop for a hen party, a birthday or a work team is from £300 for six people, in the shop after hours or at the garden, with fizz instead of tea if you like. Vouchers for a workshop are the most-given present we sell.

Questions about workshops

I am not creative. Will I manage?

Everyone says this and everyone manages; the techniques are simple and taught slowly, and foliage is forgiving. The wreath workshop has an eighty-six-year-old regular and a nine-year-old who came with her mother.

Can children come?

From about eight with an adult, to the wreath and bulb workshops. The hand-tied is better for twelve and up.

Order by 1pm and it is there this afternoon.

A hand-tied from the best of the morning, a bowl for someone grieving, a bunch every fortnight, or an hour in the shop to talk about a wedding: ring, send the form, or come in. Same-day delivery across the Vale by electric van, £5 local, £8 across the Vale, free over £60.
