Video doorbells and smart locks

A wired video doorbell that does not need charging, a smart lock rated for insurance, and both on the same app as your alarm. Fitted properly, with the door checked first.

A video doorbell is the most-used piece of security in most homes, because you look at it every day. A smart lock means the cleaner, the dog walker or your mother can be let in without a key under the mat.

We wire doorbells to a proper supply so they never need taking down to charge, set the motion zone to your path rather than the pavement, and connect them to the same app as your alarm and cameras if you have them. If you have bought your own, we will fit it for £60 and make it work on your wifi, which is where most of the trouble is.

Smart locks are only as good as the door. We check the door first: a uPVC or composite door with a worn mechanism will defeat any lock, and some smart locks are not suitable for doors with multipoint locking. Where they are, we fit a lock with a British Standard or Sold Secure rating so your insurer is satisfied, set up codes and phone access for the people you choose, and show you how to take access away again.

Questions about doorbells and smart locks

Will a smart lock fit my door?

Most uPVC and composite doors take a smart cylinder or handle set; some older timber doors need a different approach. We check at the survey and say plainly if it is not a good idea for your door.

What if the battery dies?

The lock warns you for weeks before, and every lock we fit opens with a normal key too. The doorbell is wired, so it does not have a battery to die.

Do you fit Ring and Nest?

Yes, we fit the doorbell you have bought for £60. We usually supply a doorbell that records to your own recorder with no subscription, but it is your choice.
