Servicing and maintenance

An annual service for your alarm or cameras, fault visits the same working day, and takeovers of systems whose installer has retired or stopped answering.

An alarm that has not been serviced for five years usually has a dying backup battery, a sensor that has stopped seeing the hallway and an engineer code nobody knows. A service fixes all three.

A service takes about an hour. We test every sensor, contact, siren and keypad, replace the panel's backup battery and any device batteries that are low, check the siren's own battery and tamper, read the panel's log for faults and false alarms, and update the software. For cameras we clean the domes, check focus and night vision, check the recorder is actually recording and that the app still works. You get a written report and a certificate for your insurer.

If your system was fitted by someone who has retired, gone out of business or just stopped answering, we can usually take it over. Many panels have a default engineer code we can reset; some need a new panel. We say which at the first visit, and if it is cheaper to replace than repair, we tell you that too.

What it includes

  • Every device tested
  • Backup and device batteries replaced
  • Panel log and software checked
  • Camera focus and recording checked
  • Written report and certificate
  • Same-day fault visits for maintained systems

What it costs

Annual service £95; a first visit to take over another installer's system £120. Fault visits £75 plus parts. The kit builder prices an alarm and cameras for your own doors and windows, and the monitoring page explains the monthly options.

Questions about servicing and repairs

Can you service a system you did not fit?

Yes, most makes. The first visit is £120 because it usually involves resetting codes and replacing a battery or two; after that it is £95 a year like any other.

My alarm keeps going off at night. Why?

Usually a low battery in a sensor, a spider in a motion sensor, or a door contact that has worked loose. A fault visit is £75 plus parts and normally fixes it in an hour.

How often should it be serviced?

Once a year for any home alarm, and twice a year for police-response systems, as the standard requires. Monitored systems include the annual service.
