One piece, no seams: bathrooms, utilities and rentals

Sheet vinyl

Cushioned vinyl in one sheet off a 4 or 5 metre roll, so there is no seam for water to find: the safest floor for a bathroom, the cheapest good floor for a utility room, and the one landlords ask for. Fitted in an hour or two.

Sheet vinyl is not glamorous, and in a bathroom nothing beats it. It goes down in one piece, cut to the room off a 4 or 5 metre roll, so there is no seam for water to get into and no grout to go black. The modern cushioned ones are soft and warm underfoot, and the patterns have come a long way from the 1980s.

Because it is one piece, the width of the roll matters even more than it does with carpet: a bathroom 2.1 metres by 1.8 still needs a piece off a 4 metre roll unless we can cut it from an offcut, which we always look for. The measurer shows you the piece we would cut and the waste, and the shop often has a remnant that fits for less.

Vinyl needs a smooth floor, so on old boards we lay a thin ply first, priced on the quote. Round the toilet and the basin pedestal we cut a template, and we can weld the vinyl up the wall as a coved skirting in a wet room or a shower area.

What is included

  • One sheet with no seams in most rooms
  • Cut from a remnant where one fits
  • Templated round the toilet and the basin
  • Ply laid over old boards when they need it
  • Coved up the wall in wet areas
  • Fitted in an hour or two, often on the measure day

What it costs

From £26 a square metre fitted. A small bathroom off the roll is about £255; out of a remnant, often under £180. Including VAT. The room measurer works out your room in sheet vinyl, with the roll or the packs we would order.

Questions about sheet vinyl

Do you do remnants?

Always: there are thirty or forty in the back of the shop, and a bathroom out of a remnant is often half the price.

Is vinyl slippery?

Wet, a little; we stock slip-resistant vinyl rated for showers, which is what we put in for older customers.
