The free home measure

Most of what goes wrong with a floor is decided at the measure: the room that was not square, the door that would not close over the new underlay, the concrete that was damp, the hall that needed a seam in the wrong place. So we measure every job ourselves, at the house, before anyone orders anything.

Rhian or Lewis measures every room with a laser, draws it on the tablet, and works out the cuts: which way the carpet runs, where a seam would go, whether two rooms can come off one piece. They check the floor under the old one with a moisture meter on concrete and a walk across boards for squeaks, and they look at every door. Then they leave the samples you shortlisted for a few days so you can see them in the morning and the evening.

The quote is written there and then, and it lists every piece: the floor, the underlay, any levelling or ply, the door bars, the doors trimmed, the uplift. It is the price we fit at. If you want to think about it, it stands for sixty days.

On the fitting day we take up the old floor and take it away if you have asked us to, move the furniture and put it back. We do not move pianos, full wardrobes or fish tanks; anything else, we will.

What it costs

The home measure is free. Taking up and taking away the old floor is £3 a square metre; moving and replacing furniture is free. Including VAT. The room measurer gives you the fitted price for any room before we come.
