Room measurer

Your room, priced to the pound.

Carpet and sheet vinyl come off 4 and 5 metre rolls, and planks come in packs, so the room you have is not the floor you buy. This works out both, the way Rhian does at the measure, and prices it fitted.

Questions about the measurer

Why do I pay for more carpet than my room?

Carpet and sheet vinyl are made 4 and 5 metres wide. A room 3.6 metres wide uses a 4 metre width and the 40 cm strip is waste, unless we can use it in a cupboard or another room, which we always look for at the measure.

When does a room need a seam?

When both sides are wider than 5 metres. The measurer tries both directions and both roll widths and picks the cut with the least waste; at the measure we put the seam where it will be under a sofa, not across a doorway.

Is this the price I will pay?

For a square room on a sound floor, it is the price we quote. The home measure adds what only a visit sees: a damp floor that needs a membrane, boards that need ply, a door that needs trimming, or the stairs.

What about stairs?

A straight flight of 13 is £145 to fit plus about 6 square metres of carpet; winders and landings are measured at the house. Most people do the stairs, landing and bedrooms off one roll to cut the waste.

Rhian or Lewis measures every room with a laser, checks the floor underneath and every door, leaves the samples with you, and writes the quote before they leave. Usually within three working days.
