Anxiety

Learning to settle your body and notice your thoughts. People come for worry, exams, flying and sleepless Sundays. It does not replace medical care.

Please see your GP if anxiety is stopping you living your life. Talking therapies such as CBT have the strongest evidence and are available on the NHS, though there can be a wait. Some studies suggest hypnotherapy helps some people, but they tend to be small.

What we can do is teach you to calm your body quickly and to step back from the thoughts that go round at 3am. You practise in the chair and at home. Most people find the practice itself is the most useful part.

We work with you for four to six sessions, with a recording to use between them. We review progress at the third. If you are on medication, carry on with it, and do not change it without speaking to your doctor.

What is included

  • A long first conversation about what happens and when
  • A short breathing and settling routine
  • A recording for home
  • A review at the third session

What it costs

Anxiety work is usually four to six sessions: £90 for the first and £65 for each after, so £285 to £415 in all. There is no block booking. Most people have between two and six sessions, and we review at the third. The is it for me? page works it out by subject.

Questions about anxiety

Can you help with panic attacks?

Many people come for that, once their GP has ruled out other causes. Chest pain or breathlessness that is new to you needs a doctor first.

Should I stop my medication?

No. That is a conversation for your doctor, and we will never suggest it.
