Quieter than you think.

Hypnotherapy in a Georgian house in Brecon. You stay awake and you stay in charge. It will not cure anything, and we will tell you what the evidence says.

Breathe in as the circle grows, and out as it shrinks. There is nothing else to do.

What people come for

Six reasons people ring us.

All six

Stop smoking

For people who have decided to stop and want another way in. It works alongside NHS stop-smoking support, and we recommend you use that too.

Usually £155 for two.

Anxiety

Learning to settle your body and notice your thoughts. People come for worry, exams, flying and sleepless Sundays. It does not replace medical care.

£285 to £415 for a course.

Sleep

For people lying awake with busy minds. We work alongside the sleep habits with the best evidence, and tell you which those are.

£220 to £285 for a course.

Phobias

Getting used to the thing in your imagination first, step by step, while you are calm. Often combined with doing the real thing, gradually.

£155 to £285 for a course.

Confidence

Preparing for the thing you have to stand up and do. Calming your body, rehearsing it going well, and saying what you meant to say.

£155 to £220 for a course.

Online sessions

The same sessions by video, for people up the valleys, or who find the stairs or the journey hard. You will need a quiet room and a chair.

Same prices as in person.

What it is not

No swinging watches. No chickens.

Will I be asleep?

No. You are awake and usually more aware, not less. Most people remember nearly all of it.

Can you make me do something?

No. You could stand up and walk out at any point, and you would not do anything you did not want to do.

What if I cannot be hypnotised?

People vary, and some respond more than others. If it is not doing much for you, we will both notice, and we will say so.

Is it safe?

For most people, yes. It is not suitable for everyone: psychosis, some forms of dissociation and severe depression need other care first. Tell us, and see your GP.

How we work

Four things you can hold us to.

You will not be made to do anything

Stage hypnosis is entertainment, with volunteers who are enjoying themselves. In this room you are awake, you hear every word, and you can open your eyes when you like.

We say when something else is better

For many things there is a treatment with stronger evidence, such as NHS stop-smoking support or CBT. We tell you what it is and where to get it, even when that means you do not come back.

We keep count

We agree what you want to be different and how you will know. If nothing has shifted after three sessions we stop and talk about it, rather than booking a fourth.

What you say stays here

Unless we are seriously worried about your safety or someone else's. We will tell you first, wherever we possibly can.

A quiet room at dusk with a deep reclining chair, a blanket, a low lamp and a shuttered window

Park Place

A chair, a lamp and a shuttered window.

There is nothing strange in the room. There is a good chair, a blanket, a second chair for us, and a lamp. It looks over the back garden, so the only thing you may hear is the jackdaws. Bring someone if you like. They can wait downstairs with the kettle.

Reviews

What people said, in their own words.

Sleep

Gareth was very clear that it might do nothing, and that there was better evidence for CBT. I use the recording most nights. I still wake at four sometimes, but I do not lie there fretting about it the way I did.

Eleri W.Brecon
Phobia

I needed a blood test and had been avoiding it for two years. We made a ladder of small steps. I felt silly doing it, but I went, with the recording in my ears in the car park.

Stop smoking

Mair told me to ring the NHS service too, so I did, and I had patches as well. So I cannot tell you which bit did it. Eight months now. It was the first time anyone asked what I was getting out of smoking.

Questions people ask

Will hypnotherapy cure my problem?

We cannot promise that, and nobody should. Evidence varies by problem, and for many things there are treatments with stronger evidence. People use it to feel calmer and to practise change, and we will tell you honestly how that compares.

Do I need to see my GP first?

It is a good idea for anything medical, and we will ask. If you have thoughts of harming yourself, please see your GP today or ring Samaritans free on 116 123.

Are you regulated?

Hypnotherapy is not regulated by law in the UK. Anyone can call themselves a hypnotherapist, so check for training and a voluntary register, and ask about supervision.

Who should not come?

People with psychosis, some forms of dissociation, or severe depression should talk to their doctor first. We also do not see people under sixteen without a parent or guardian.

How much does it cost?

£90 for a ninety-minute first session and £65 for a follow-up. Most people have between two and six sessions in all. There is no block booking.

Can I do it in Welsh?

Cewch, wrth gwrs. Mair works in Welsh or English: just tell us which you would like.

Start with ten minutes on the phone.

Free, and no obligation. We ask what you are hoping for and tell you honestly whether we think we are the right people, or whether you should see someone else.
