In the studio, under the light

Posing coaching

One-hour posing sessions in the studio under a stage light: the mandatory poses for your category, the quarter turns, the transitions and the routine, filmed for you.

Two competitors with the same physique can place five spots apart because one of them can pose. It is the cheapest improvement in the sport, and the most neglected.

Sessions are an hour in the studio at the back of the gym, on a low platform under a single warm stage light, with a full-length mirror and the lights in the rest of the room turned down. It is as close to a stage as we can make a shop on Station Road.

We work through your category's mandatory poses and quarter turns, then the transitions between them, then the routine if your category has one. Everything is filmed on a phone and sent to you with notes, so you can practise at home in front of a mirror.

Posing is tiring. Holding a vacuum and a front pose for thirty seconds under a light is a workout, which is why we start it early in the prep and not in the last fortnight.

Questions about posing

What should I wear?

Your posing suit or trunks if you have them, or close-fitting shorts and a crop top or vest if you do not. Nothing oiled or tanned; we need to see the shapes.

I am not competing. Can I still book?

Yes. Plenty of people book posing for a photoshoot or just because they want to know how to stand.

Is it private?

Yes. The studio is screened from the gym floor and the door closes. Only you and the coach.

Start with a free half-hour. No sales, no scale.

Come in or call for thirty minutes: your training, your history, the show you have in mind if you have one, and an honest answer about whether it is the right time. If it is not, we will say so and say what would change it.
