The fitting team and trades

Two fitting teams who have worked for us for years, our own Gas Safe plumber and NICEIC electrician, a plasterer we have used since 2011, and a project plan on your fridge with what happens each day. The old kitchen out on day one, the sink back by day three, the last handle on by day ten.

A kitchen fitter who subcontracts the plumbing and the electrics is three firms in your house who each blame the others. We employ two fitting teams of two, led by Gethin, and our own plumber and electrician, so the people who planned the job are the people who do it. The day plan goes on your fridge on the first morning: strip-out, first-fix pipes and cables, plaster, units, worktops, second fix, appliances, sign-off.

Day one is noisy: the old kitchen comes out into a skip on the drive, and the plumber caps the water so the rest of the house keeps it. Days two and three are the first fix of pipes and cables and any plastering, and by the end of day three the sink is back on a temporary connection so you can wash up. The units go in from day four, the worktops when they are ready, and the second fix of sockets, lights and taps last. We hoover every evening.

The electrician tests every new circuit and you get the Part P certificate the week after; the plumber pressure-tests and signs off the gas if the hob is gas. At the end Carys walks the kitchen with you, opens every door, runs the dishwasher and the tap, and writes a snag list if anything is not right. The balance is due when the snag list is done, not before.

What it costs

Included in every fitted kitchen: the strip-out, the skip, the plumbing, the electrics with the certificate, the plastering, the levelling and the appliance fitting. Tiling, flooring and decorating quoted separately if you want them. Including VAT. The estimator gives the band for your room; the projects page has eight kitchens before and after, with what each cost.

Questions about fitting and trades

Can we live in the house during the fit?

Almost everyone does. We seal the kitchen door with a dust sheet, hoover every evening, and lend you a two-ring induction hob and a kettle point in another room.

Do you do the tiling and flooring?

If you want us to: we have a tiler and a floor fitter we trust and quote them separately. Many people do those themselves after we leave.

Start with the design visit. An hour, and it is free.

Carys comes to your house, measures every wall with a laser, shows you the doors and worktops in your own light, and sends scaled drawings with a fixed quote within a week. The estimator gives you the band before she arrives.
