The rate for Monday 26 October

A room a night including VAT and breakfast for two. One person £15 less. Arrive on a Friday or Saturday and the stay is two nights at least. Dogs £10 a night in the Sorting Office. Check-in 4pm to 9pm, out by 10.30am.

How the rates work

Three seasons, two kinds of night, one rule.

Low season

November to March

The quiet months: empty hills, the stove lit in the breakfast room, and the lowest rates. Most of our walkers come now.

Mid season

April to June and October

Spring and October: the best walking weather, lambs on the hills and the leaves turning on the Towy. The middle rates.

High season

July to September and Christmas to New Year

Summer, and Christmas to New Year, when the rooms go months ahead. The top rates, and the weekend rule matters most.

A weekend night is a Friday or a Saturday; Sunday to Thursday are weekday nights, bank holidays included. A Friday arrival needs the Saturday too, and a Saturday arrival the Sunday; if the next night is taken, the card says so and suggests arriving the night before.

Questions about the rooms

Why two nights at the weekend?

Because a single Saturday night leaves the Friday and the Sunday hard to sell, and with four rooms that matters. On a weekday, one night is fine.

Which room is quietest?

Penny Black, in the eaves at the back. The Telegraph Room and the Postmaster's Room are over Broad Street, which is silent at night but busy early on a Friday, market day.

Which room for someone who cannot manage stairs?

The Sorting Office, on the ground floor with a walk-in shower and its own door to the courtyard. The others are up a Georgian stair with a good rail.

Can a child share our room?

In the Postmaster's Room, which has a single bed in the alcove: £25 a night for the third person, breakfast included. A travel cot fits in any room, free.

Is there a television?

No, on purpose. There is Wi-Fi throughout, books, maps and a radio in every room, and most guests tell us they did not miss it.

Do you take bookings for one night at the weekend?

Sometimes at short notice: if a single Friday or Saturday is still free on the Wednesday before, ring Ffion and she will usually say yes.

Found your night? Book it.

Send the form with the room and the night, or ring Ffion on 01550 496 0920. A card holds the room; nothing is charged until you leave.
