Broad Street, Llandovery.

In the middle of a small market town on the A40, a minute from the square and four from the station, at the western edge of Bannau Brycheiniog with the Black Mountain twenty minutes away.

Rolling green hills, hedged fields and a river valley in Carmarthenshire with the Black Mountain on the horizon in late golden light

Getting here and around

By car, train, bus and boot.

By car

Llandovery is on the A40 between Brecon (twenty-two miles) and Carmarthen (twenty-eight), and on the A483 from Builth Wells. Park on Broad Street after six or in the free car park by the castle.

By train

The Heart of Wales line stops at Llandovery between Swansea and Shrewsbury, four or five trains a day each way. The station is a four-minute walk; we will meet you with a barrow for bags.

By bus

Buses run to Brecon, Carmarthen and Lampeter from the market square, a minute from the door. Not on Sundays, mostly; the folder has the times.

The Black Mountain

Llanddeusant and the path to Llyn y Fan Fach are twenty minutes by car, by a lane that ends at the youth hostel. Dafydd will drop you for £15 when he can.

Llyn Brianne

Ten miles north up the Towy valley: the reservoir, the dam and the forty-five-mile cycling loop that starts at our door.

On foot in town

The castle mound, the market square, the river path, two pubs, a restaurant and the bookshop are all within three minutes of the front door.
