Reviews

What guests write in the book.

Six reviews from the last year: walkers, cyclists, a dog, a couple who came by train, the whole house for a birthday, and the four-star one about the Friday market setting up under the Telegraph Room.

Postmaster's Room

A bath by the window looking down Broad Street, the quietest night's sleep we have had in years, and the best breakfast of our lives. The laverbread converted James. We have booked the same weekend next year.

Walker

Came for three days on the Black Mountain in March weather. Boots dry every morning in the drying room, a packed lunch on the dresser, and Dafydd dropped me at Llanddeusant on the wettest day. Exactly what a walker needs.

Dogs

The courtyard door made it so easy with a young dog, and Bella had her own towel and a biscuit on the bed. Breakfast at the hall table with her under it. Ffion and Mabli made her very welcome.

Cyclist

Rode the Brianne loop from the door and the bike store was perfect. Four stars only because the Telegraph Room is over the street and the Friday market starts setting up early; light sleepers should ask for Penny Black, as Ffion suggested afterwards.

Heart of Wales line

We came on the Heart of Wales line without a car and never missed one. Four minutes from the station, the river path, the bookshop, and two dinners in town Ffion booked for us.

Whole house

Nine of us for our mother's seventieth. The breakfast room was our sitting room with the stove lit, Ffion made a cawl the first night, and the breakfasts were the talk of the weekend.

About the four stars

Friday is market day, and the stalls go up under the front windows at seven.

The Telegraph Room and the Postmaster's Room look over Broad Street, which is silent at night and busy early on a Friday. We now say so on the rooms page and in the booking reply, and steer light sleepers to Penny Black at the back, which is the quietest room in the house.
