Under six months, in two short visits
Puppy's first groom
Two gentle introductory sessions for puppies that have had their second vaccination: the table, the bath, the dryer and the clippers on, treats throughout, and a face, feet and sanitary tidy. No full clip, no rush.

The dog that panics at the groomer at three years old is usually the dog whose first groom was a full clip at six months. We do it the slow way, and the slow way takes two visits.
Visit one: your puppy comes in, meets the groomer, stands on the table with the non-slip mat, hears the dryer from across the room, feels the clippers switched on against their side, has a quick warm bath and a cuddle-dry, and goes home. Half of the session is treats. Visit two, a fortnight later: the same again plus a face, feet and sanitary tidy, and nails if they will let us.
By the third visit a puppy who started this way usually walks in happily and can have a proper groom. We also show you how to brush at home, which brush to use for the coat, and how to get the puppy used to having feet and ears handled. Bring them hungry and bring their favourite treats.

Questions about puppy intro
When can a puppy have its first groom?
A week after the second vaccination, usually from twelve weeks. The earlier the better for a curly coat, because by five months a cockapoo coat is already matting behind the ears if nobody is brushing it.
