Grooms

Six things we do, properly.

All grooms

01

Full groom

The whole thing: a two-shampoo bath, blast and fluff dry, a clip or scissor finish in the style you ask for, nails clipped, ears cleaned and a bandana to go home in. Priced by size and coat.

Small dogs £38, medium £48, large £58, giant from £75.

02

Bath and tidy

The maintenance groom between full grooms, and the whole groom for a smooth or double coat: bath, blast dry, a thorough brush-out or de-shed, feet and face tidied, nails clipped. No clipping of the body.

Small dogs £26, medium £32, large £40, giant from £50.

03

Hand stripping

Dead coat pulled by hand with a stripping knife and finger-and-thumb, which keeps a wire coat harsh, waterproof and the right colour. The only way to keep a terrier looking like a terrier, done by Bethan.

From £55 for a small terrier to £85 for a cocker or a large wire coat.

04

Puppy's first groom

Two gentle introductory sessions for puppies that have had their second vaccination: the table, the bath, the dryer and the clippers on, treats throughout, and a face, feet and sanitary tidy. No full clip, no rush.

£22 a session, two sessions recommended, about forty-five minutes each.

05

Nails, ears and teeth

Nail clip or grind, ear clean, teeth brushing and a quick eye or paw tidy, walk in or booked, in ten minutes while you wait. Free nails with every groom; £10 on their own.

Nail clip £10 or grind £14, ear clean £6, teeth brushing £6, paw or eye tidy £8.

06

Cat grooming

Long-haired cats brushed out, de-matted or clipped into a lion cut by Nia, who grooms cats only on Wednesday mornings when there are no dogs in the building. No sedation, no cages, a quiet room.

Brush-out and nails from £45, lion clip from £60, de-matting by time at £10 per 15 minutes.

How we work

Four things you can expect every time.

Your dog, start to finish

The same groomer bathes, dries and finishes your dog. No handing a wet dog to whoever is free, no cage dryers.

Collected when we ring

Most grooms take two to three hours. We ring when your dog is done and ask you to be here within half an hour, so nobody sits in a crate all afternoon.

The guide price is the price

Size and coat set the price and it is on the website. The only extras are matting by time and the add-ons you choose.

Nervous, old and first-timers

Shorter sessions, non-slip tables, a quiet room with no dryers running, and a groomer who will stop if your dog has had enough.

Nervous dogs

The dog that hates the groomer usually had a bad first one.

We see it every week: a two-year-old cockapoo who shakes in the car park because the first groom was a full clip at six months with a cage dryer and a muzzle. So we do the first one slowly, in two short visits, and for a dog that has already been frightened we start again as if it were a puppy.

  • Shorter sessions in the quiet room, no dryers running next door
  • Non-slip tables, a hydraulic table that lowers to the floor
  • We stop when the dog has had enough and finish next time, no charge

Bethan

Round head, round feet, half an inch on the body. Millie comes every seven weeks and is brushed twice a week at home, which is why she never needs clipping short.

Rhys

Clipped jacket, scissored legs and skirt, eyebrows and beard shaped by hand. Otto stands like a statue for it, which took three visits to get to.

Bethan

Full body strip every ten weeks, head and furnishings tidied. Three years of stripping and the coat is as harsh and red as the day he came in.

Full groom

Our cockapoo used to shake in the car park at the old place. Bethan did two puppy-style sessions with him even though he was two, and now he pulls to get through the door. Teddy trim is exactly the photo I showed her, every time.

Sarah L.Llantwit Major
Bath and tidy

Golden retriever, three bin bags of undercoat a year on the sofa. Rhys does a de-shed every eight weeks and the difference is unbelievable. He also refused to clip her and explained why, which the last groomer never did.

Gareth and JoCowbridge
Hand stripping

Border terrier hand-stripped properly for the first time in his life at four years old. Took two visits as Bethan said it would and the coat has come back harsh and the right colour. Worth every penny over a clip.

Questions people ask before they book

How much will my dog cost to groom?

It depends on size and coat, and the price guide page tells you before you book: a small full groom is £38, a medium £48, a large £58, a giant from £75. A bath and tidy is less. Matting is the only thing that adds to it, charged by time, and we ring before we add it.

How long will my dog be with you?

Two to three hours for a full groom, about an hour and a half for a bath and tidy, and we ring when they are done. We do not keep dogs all day: one in, one out, and you collect within half an hour of the call.

My dog is nervous or has been frightened at a groomer before. Can you help?

Yes, and please tell us when you book so we put you with Nia or Bethan in the quiet room, with a shorter first visit. We do not muzzle as a shortcut and we do not force a dog through a groom; if they have had enough we stop and finish next time.

Do you groom cats?

Yes, on Wednesday mornings only, with Nia, when there are no dogs in the building. Brush-outs, de-matting and lion clips, no sedation, booked in advance.

What vaccinations do you need?

Up to date on the core vaccinations and kennel cough is strongly recommended. Puppies a week after their second jab. If your dog has fleas we will do a flea bath (£12) and ring you; we cannot have fleas in the salon.

Book a groom.

Tell us the breed, the size and what you would like, and we confirm a slot by text within a working day. Nervous dog, first groom or a cat: say so and we book the quiet room.
