Baby clinic, immunisations, six-week checks, same-day for children
Baby, child and family health
The baby clinic with the health visitors on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, the six-week check, childhood immunisations on the Welsh schedule, same-day appointments for any unwell child, and support for new parents including postnatal checks and mental health.

A child who is unwell is never turned away for the day. Ring from 8am, say the child's age and what is wrong, and a clinician rings back first; children under five with a fever, a rash or breathing difficulty are seen that morning. The rest of the time, the health visitors and nurses run the clinics that keep children well.
The baby clinic runs on Tuesday and Thursday mornings with the health visiting team: weighing, feeding advice, development checks, and the chance to ask anything without an appointment. The six-to-eight-week check for mother and baby is a twenty-minute appointment with a GP, booked by the practice when the birth is registered with us. Childhood immunisations follow the Welsh schedule at eight, twelve and sixteen weeks, one year, three years and four months, and the nurses send the invitation when each is due.
New parents are offered a postnatal check at six to eight weeks that includes how you are, not only how the baby is. Low mood, anxiety and feeling unable to cope after a birth are common and treatable, and the mental health practitioner, Gareth, can see you within a week. Teenagers can see a doctor or nurse on their own from any age, and what they say is confidential unless they are at serious risk.

Questions about children and families
My child is unwell now. What do I do?
Ring 029 2018 0244 from 8am and say the child's age; children are prioritised in the morning callbacks. If it is before 8am or after 6:30pm, ring 111, and if a child is struggling to breathe, floppy, has a rash that does not fade under a glass or a fit, ring 999.
Do I need to register my baby?
Yes, as soon as you have the birth certificate; bring it or the red book to reception and the baby is registered the same day. Until then the baby is seen as a temporary patient, which changes nothing about the care.
Can both parents come to the baby clinic?
Of course, and grandparents and childminders too. It is a drop-in with no booking, so arrive when it suits and expect to wait a few minutes at busy times.
Need help today? Ring from 8am.
Sixty same-day slots every weekday, a clinician ringing you back the same morning. For anything that can wait, request a routine appointment online and reception replies within a working day. When we are closed, ring 111.
