The practice

Six things people come to us for.

All clinics and services

01

GP appointments

How to get an appointment: same-day help from 8am for things that cannot wait, routine appointments up to four weeks ahead, phone and video consultations, and home visits for people who cannot come in. Who you will see, how long it takes, and what to do out of hours.

Same-day slots released 8am by phone or online.

02

Nurse and healthcare assistant clinics

Most of what happens at the surgery happens in the nurses' rooms: blood tests, blood pressure checks, dressings and stitches out, cervical screening, travel and childhood vaccinations, ear care, contraception and the annual reviews for long-term conditions. Bookable directly, no GP needed.

Book directly with reception or online; no GP appointment needed first.

03

Repeat prescriptions

Order a repeat prescription online through the NHS Wales App, by the prescription line between 10am and 4pm, or by putting the slip in the box at reception. It is ready for your chosen pharmacy within two working days. Medication reviews with the practice pharmacist.

Two working days from ordering to the pharmacy.

04

Baby, child and family health

The baby clinic with the health visitors on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, the six-week check, childhood immunisations on the Welsh schedule, same-day appointments for any unwell child, and support for new parents including postnatal checks and mental health.

Baby clinic Tuesday and Thursday 9:30 to 11:30, drop in.

05

Long-term conditions

If you live with diabetes, asthma, COPD, heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney disease or a mental health condition, you have a named nurse or GP, an annual review in your birthday month, and a care plan you helped write. Social prescribing and a physiotherapist in the building.

Annual review booked by the practice in your birthday month; blood tests first, then thirty minutes with the nurse.

06

Minor surgery, joint injections and travel

Two of our GPs are accredited for minor surgery: removal of cysts, lipomas and skin lesions, joint and soft-tissue steroid injections, and cryotherapy for warts and skin tags, done here on Friday mornings rather than at the hospital. The travel clinic runs with the nurses.

Free on the NHS after a GP has assessed it.

Getting an appointment

Ring, or request online. Then a callback.

1. Ring from 8am

For anything that cannot wait, ring 029 2018 0244 from 8am or use the online form from 7am. Say what the problem is; reception is trained to ask so you get the right person.

2. A clinician rings back

A GP or advanced nurse practitioner rings you the same morning, usually within two hours. Most problems are sorted on the phone with a prescription sent to your pharmacy.

3. Seen the same day if needed

If you need to be examined you are given a time that day. Children under five with a fever, rash or breathing difficulty are seen that morning.

4. Routine? Book ahead

For everything that can wait, book online any time or ring from 10am: ten minutes with the doctor you know, up to four weeks ahead, or a twenty-minute double.

  • 9,400patients registered
  • 60same-day slots released at 8am

What you can expect

Four things, every time.

Rung back the same morning

If you ask for same-day help before 10am, a clinician rings you back that morning. Most people hear within two hours; the phone wait at 8am averaged four minutes last quarter.

The right person, not just a doctor

Six GPs, two advanced nurse practitioners, four nurses, a pharmacist, a physiotherapist and a mental health practitioner. Reception asks what the problem is so you see whoever can sort it fastest.

Everything in plain English and Welsh

Letters, leaflets and this website in both languages on request. Interpreters by phone for forty languages, BSL by video, and large print or Easy Read on request.

Measured, published, improved

Our phone waits, appointment waits and survey results are published every quarter on the practice page, with what we changed because of them.

Repeat prescriptions

Ordered by Monday, at the pharmacy by Wednesday.

Three ways to order: the NHS Wales App or online form at any hour, the prescription line between 10am and 4pm, or the paper slip in the box at reception. Every request is checked by a clinician before it is signed and sent electronically to the pharmacy you have chosen. The practice pharmacist reviews your list once a year and rings if anything should change.

What patients say

From the patient survey.

4.7612 responses
Same-day

Rang at 8:02 about my daughter's temperature, spoke to a doctor by nine, seen at eleven, prescription at the pharmacy next door by twelve. That is what a GP surgery should be like.

Catrin J.Llandaff
Long-term conditions

Type 2 diabetes for eight years. Same nurse every review, bloods done the week before so we actually talk about the results, and the pharmacist changed my tablets without me needing to see a doctor.

David M.Danescourt
Home visits

My husband is housebound. Dr Morgan has visited four times this year and rings before she comes. The prescriptions go straight to the chemist. I cannot fault them.

Questions patients ask

How do I register with the practice?

If you live in our area (Llandaff, Llandaff North, Danescourt, Fairwater, Pontcanna and part of Whitchurch), bring ID and proof of address to reception or fill in the registration form on this site. You are registered within two working days and can book straight away. We do not turn anyone away for lack of ID; tell reception and we will find a way.

How do I get a same-day appointment?

Ring 029 2018 0244 from 8am or use the online form from 7am. Say what the problem is, and a GP or advanced nurse practitioner rings you back that morning; if you need to be seen, you are seen that day. Sixty slots are released every weekday.

How do I order a repeat prescription?

Online through the NHS Wales App, on the prescription line 029 2018 0245 between 10am and 4pm, or by putting the slip in the box at reception. Ready at your pharmacy in two working days. We cannot take prescription requests on the main reception line.

Can I see a female doctor, or a Welsh-speaking one?

Yes to both. Three of our six GPs are women and two of them speak Welsh, as do two of the nurses and most of the reception team. Ask when you book. Cervical screening is always with a female nurse.

What do I do when the surgery is closed?

Ring 111 for NHS 111 Wales, open all day every day, who can arrange an out-of-hours GP. Ring 999 for an emergency. The pharmacy next door is open until 7pm on weekdays for minor ailments.

Need help today? Ring from 8am.

Sixty same-day slots every weekday, a clinician ringing you back the same morning. For anything that can wait, request a routine appointment online and reception replies within a working day. When we are closed, ring 111.
