The committee

The people who run it.

The club is owned by its members and run by a committee of nine volunteers. Two faces you will see most: Rhian on the courts, and Emrys at the blackboard.

The team

Rhian Mathias, head coach, a woman in her forties in a navy polo shirt beside a tennis court fence

Rhian Mathias

Head coach

Rhian played county tennis as a teenager, gave it up for twenty years, and came back through this club's Sunday mornings. She has coached here since 2011 and holds a senior coaching award (a placeholder on this demonstration site).

She runs the adult groups and the junior programme, and she believes nobody should have to learn to serve before they enjoy the game.

Emrys Howells, club secretary, an older man in a cream jumper and glasses on the pavilion veranda

Emrys Howells

Club secretary

Emrys joined in 1989 to get out of the house and has been secretary since 2014. If you email the club, it is his reply you get, usually with a dry remark.

He runs the booking grid, writes the AGM papers, and on Sunday mornings he stands at the blackboard sorting out the fours.

The paperwork

What any club should be able to show you.

A welfare officer

Carys Morgan, a committee member who does not coach. Placeholder name on this demonstration site.

Checked coaches

DBS checks and coaching awards held by the secretary. These are placeholders here, but ask to see the real thing at any club.

First aid

A kit and a defibrillator in the pavilion, and a first-aider on site at all junior sessions.

Open accounts

Read out at the AGM every March and given to any member who asks. The surplus goes back into the courts.

Come and hit a ball before you pay for anything.

A free guest session on any Sunday morning or Wednesday club night. Borrow a racket from the pavilion, meet whoever is on the next court, and decide over a cup of tea.
