If you want a match

Leagues and teams

Six teams in the Taff Valley summer and winter leagues, an internal box league and a club ladder, all included in membership.

We put out six teams, three men's and three ladies' or mixed, in the Taff Valley league. Home matches are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm, and on Saturday afternoons.

Team captains pick from whoever has said they are available, and there is always room for a reserve who turns up on time. New members can usually get a game inside the first month if they want one, usually starting in the lower teams. Match teas are a serious matter, and the rota is shared out fairly.

If you want matches but cannot commit to a team, the internal box league runs in six-week rounds. You get five names and a deadline, and you arrange the games between you. Top of a box goes up, bottom goes down.

Courts are held for matches on the booking grid, so you can see before you book when the league has courts 3 to 6. We keep at least one lit court open for members on all match evenings, and the unlit clay courts until dusk.

Questions about leagues

What standard are the teams?

From steady club doubles upwards. Ask a captain to watch you play on a Wednesday and they will tell you honestly where you might fit.

Is there a singles league?

The box league is singles or doubles, whichever the round says. Clay singles is the club's secret pleasure.

Come and hit a ball before you pay for anything.

A free guest session on any Sunday morning or Wednesday club night. Borrow a racket from the pavilion, meet whoever is on the next court, and decide over a cup of tea.
